Well, I finally upgrade to the LNL. (Not the EZJect).

I found out that half of my shellplates will not work, despite the fact that they came in a box marked LNL/Projector. The good news is I talked to Hornady and they are going to fix them for free. :)

The bad news is that after I had packed them up and shipped them, I figured out I had left the #10 on the Projector, so it missed the boat.

I wanted to use my Redding 10X measure so I had to fix it to work automatically on the new press. After a bit of head scratching I came up with a scheme.

I decided to use the basic design from the original Projector, except I wanted to put it on the side instead of the middle of the press to get it out of the way.

All the parts I used I found in my "shop" (12 X 20 shed). I made the push rod from a bolt, the upper rod from a hinge pin, and the guide for the push rod from the hinge.

I cut the arm for the measure from a piece of flat steel, and the connector to hold it to the upper rod from a piece of steel rod I had scrounged from a commercial copier.

I used a jig saw, two grinders, files, and sandpaper to finish the arm for the measure.

I made the two rods and the connector on my little EMCO 5 hobby lathe, with a good bit of hand finishing. I hand tapped the holes for both screws in the set up.

All I lack is making a piece to bolt onto the sub plate to bring the push rod up, operating the measure. I am going to have to dismantle the press to get to where I need to drill and tap. That will be another day. I spent Friday evening, half of Saturday, and half of today doing the rest. Time for a rest I think.

Good job, Walkalong. I've been using the Hornady powder measure that came with my LNL. It throws very consistant powder charges, and I'm very happy with it.

My EZ-ject conversion kit is suppose to be here this week. I can't wait. I have already gotten the shell plates modified by Hornady.

Am I missing something, or with the new lever you made for the Redding PM, wouldn't it work with the Hornady case activated linkage?

Andy

I got bored, so back to work I went. :)

Next on the list was to mod some crimp dies since I crimp in the 5th station. They will hit the ejection wire if not shortened.

I started with a Redding .38/.357 Taper Crimp die. It was about 2.493 long. I shortened it to 2.398. (I was aiming for 1.240)

The Redding die was surface hardened so I had to grind off the excess, regrind the radius, and finish with sandpaper.

What a PIA. :)

Anybody know which, if any, crimp dies will fit without modding them?

For .38 Special, I found a Lyman crimp die that would work in the 5th station, but I don't have a clue how old it might be. I've got so many dies, and mixed sets of dies, I've lost track of when I got most of them.

Hope this helps.

I just recently bought a Dillon crimp die for .38 Super. It has a huge smoothly radiused opening on it. I could grind it down and not have to redo the radius on the opening at all, just touch it up. I hate to buy new dies, so I will probably end up modding most of the ones I have, one at a time as I need them.

Dillon had to be modified. One more down, numerous ones to go. :scrutiny:
