Does anyone have load data for Speer's Short Barrel Gold Dot in .45ACP? On Speer's website, they have a load that duplicates the SB Gold Dot in .357 mag., but I didn't see anything for .45ACP.
For 200 Gr. Gold Dots 9.4 Grs. of AA # 5 gave me an AVG of 919 from a 4" CDP and 876 from a 3" CDP @ 1.215 O.A.L. and mid 70's temp with reasonable ES & SD. This is not a max load. Accurate gives a max load of AA # 5 with a Sierra 200 Gr. FPJ @ 1.230 as 9.7 Grs. Even considering the difference in bullets and cartridge O.A.L. you should be able to go up to 9.5 or 9.6 Grs. I have not shot any 230 Gr. Gold Dots, but AA # 5 is an excellent powder for full velocity loads in the .45 with 200 & 230 Gr. bullets.
My loads showed no pressure signs in my gun. Proceed with caution near any max loads.
These loads were safe in my guns with my load procedure. Reduce 10% to start!
Speer lists a 230gr Gold Dots Short Barrel at 820 fps with a 4 inch barrel. If you want to load the same as what the factory lists you need to buy some of the factory ammo. Shoot it through your gun and chronograph it. Then load your own to this velocity in your gun.
Speer has data from a 4.4 inch barrel in their reloading manual -
230gr GD-HP - OAL 1.200 - Primers - CCI 300
Blue Dot - 8.1gr (796fps) - 9.0gr (893fps)
Power Pistol - 6.3gr (759fps) - 7.4gr (881fps)
One of these should be what you want.

As bullet weights go up - powder charges go down.
For AA#5 Speer lists 7.8gr MAX at 792fps
Speer lists 12 powders that will attain more velocity than AA#5 with only one with less velocity.
I have and use the Speer # 13 , but the problem with it is they do not show pressures for their data. They can stop anywhere they want to make any powder be the top dog so to speak. I don't doubt, well I know there are, powders you can get more velocity with than AA # 5, but it gives excellent velocity for the recoil and all the velocity you will need unless you want to supercharge it. (In the Real World, not the Lab.)

I stand by what I said for the 200 grain Gold Dots and I still say AA # 5 should work well with the 230 Gr. Gold Dots. Over a Chrono, not in someones mind.
