I have picked up a bunch of blue ribbed Rio cases at my local club and I am wondering what a good (preferably red dot or clays) load would be. I can easily get Cheddite or Rio primers at my gun shop. I will be loading on a Mec 9000 GN. I need a 1 or 1-1/8 oz of 8s load. Around 1200 fps.

What fps do you want? I have a load I've been busting clays with since the early 1980's you might like? AA hull WWAA12 wad 1 1/8 oz. #36 powder bushing Red Dot. I'm not certain of the fps, but it's a fast load. I should chronograph it and find out what it's getting some time.

I'll get you some load data specific to those hulls and get back to you in a few hours.

I was shocked to find nothing for those hulls in my stuff as yet. I was certain I had that data. Bu the day is young, and the pile of data is big.

Are the internal characteristics simular to any US hulls? If so you should be able to easily work up a load for what ever hull comes close to those Rio and Cheddite's.

Yes, they are very similar to something like a gun club hull. Ribbed, plastic 1-piece basewad, 6 point crimp, etc. I think the Rios are made in france by Cheddite. I should probably use that load.

No, they are plastic basewads. Probably more similar to a Winchester Super Target. Its these hulls.....

If you use gun club data with those hulls all of your lead will fall out. Deep crimps. Those hulls can hold alot of volume. Look closer to Fiocchi and cheddite data. Use Cheddite primers and they will fit with no problem. The rios are a straight walled hull and use the Federal wad or a knock of (Down Range or Claybuster). The cheddite data, which is what most of the euro trash hulls are, is 19.5 gr of Red Dot with the Fed 12S3 wad (or knock off). The CB's or DR's will save you about 40-50 dollars a case. This info is available on Alliants website. If you have the chance and are at a range, pick up any Remington hull, they will last longer and reload better than the euro trash that you have now. Less voluminous meaning less powder. Although 2 grains is hardly saving that much in the short run, over a pound of powder, the difference between 17.5 and 19 grains is enough powder for 41 extra rounds. If you are just loading for trap look to some of the 1 ounce lor 7/8th ounce loads. There will be the real cost savings and shoulder savings.

Also, those stars on the bottom mean they are a cheddite hull

Those stars simply mean they were made by cheddite. They do not have the same disk base wad that other cheddites have. The base wad in these hulls have a hollow springy or collapsible section. That does not mean cheddite hull data won't work, but i would choose the lower pressure loadings just to be safe.

They are Cheddite hulls - straight wall Euro-trash hulls

IF you really want to reload these one time and toss, use data for straight walled hulls - look at Federal
