I am new to this forum and relatively new to re-loading. I want to load 9 mm luger with 147 gr LFP bullets. The bullets are brinell 15, optimized for subsonic work, from Missouri Bullet Company. I want to shoot paper targets from 25 yards. I have Winchester brass and CCI primers. The only powder I currently have is Titegroup, which is a relatively fast burning powder. (#12 on burn rate chart) My Lee manual only lists load data for this bullet using the following Winchester powders: Action PI, 571, wSUPER-FLD, 540 and 231. This load data lists the CUPS from 32100 - 33100 PSI. According to the info supplied with the bullets, these PSI's are too high for a bullet with a hardness of only Brinell 15.

Do any of you guys load 9mm LFP bullets and have a successful recipe. I do not what to make a load that will cause excessive leading in my barrel.

Do I want fast, moderate or slow burning powder for heavy lead bullets?

Try the Tightgroup you already have.

2.5 grains should give you about 870 FPS @ 26,800 CUP.
2.8 MAX should give you 943 FPS @ 30,300 CUP.

A medium burn rate powder like Unique, Power Pistol, or HS-6 would give about the same velocity with a little less pressure and a bulkier powder charge in the case.

There are no slow burning pistol powders suitable for the 9mm.

I load that exact bullet, LFP 147 gr. for my wife to shoot in her Browning Hi-Power. I use W231 with 3.5 grs. and no leading in her gun.

At subsonic velocity, 15 Brinell would be about just right I would think.

You want them hard enough to engage the rifling without slippage.

But soft enough to obdurate and fill the rifling/bore tightly.
