Loading for Ruger .44 Mag. Carbine

I've been reloading for over 40 years, however, I've noted that my Ruger .44 Mag Carbine won't feed, after the first round (stove pipe), anything other than full power .44 Mag loads. I usually loaded using WW 296, or Hogdon 110 with no problem. Lately I've tried using Unique at "Maximum load" as well as Red Dot using a 240 grn jacketed hp bullet. Any ideas as how to get that firearm to shoot the other loads especially when loaded to Maximum loadings.

Use H110, W296, or 2400.

The gas system is tuned for slower burn rate magnum type powder, and you can't get enough pressure in all the right places with fast powder like Unique & Red Dot.

I'd stop trying before you break something important you can't get anymore.

we always have to run full bore hot hot 44's through ours to make it work. Usually using one of the powders RC listed.

I'd stick with what works, or sell it and get a lever gun that will run whatever you want through it.

From my experience the little Rugers don't shoot well accuracy wise with low to medium velocity loads either. Both with a auto carbine years ago and now with a modern 77/44.

Thanks guys, that was about the conclusion I was coming to. Like I said I never had a problem with using WW 296 or H 110, just the faster burning powder. Again I thank ya.

Great, maybe found the solution for my carbine then. I have the limited run model with the peep sights from the factory, currently has "see thru" scope mounts with a troublesome scope.
Have you tried a lead SWC bullet in yours, would they work well, or not feed well?

Leading in ther gas system is probably not a good idea.
