I'm looking at developing light 270 win. loads for our coastal deer here in California and Oregon. Our little blacktails seldom reach 200 lbs, despite being first cousins to the desert Mule deer.
My first choice was the 110 gr spitzer(Sierra) and IMR4064. I believe a 100 gr would do the job,as well. My regular load is 54.5 of 4350 pushing a 130 gr Norma SPBT, but my model 70 is a bit heavy and I would rather carry my 6 1/4 Ruger American through the brush. My standard load pushes my 68 year old frame around pretty good in the Ruger, besides the 130's at over 3000 fps do a bit of meat damage on the little black tails.
Any other reloaders come across this dilemma. Basically I'm trying to make a 270 act like a .243.
