Loading long term ammo

I started “prepping” long before 1990. But I still don’t store powder for more than 10 years. I have been given some pretty old powders which I use right away if they pass the sniff test.
I been reading up on foraging! we got so many good stuff to eat here in Washington. My parents took us foraging & fishing when we were little kids, was just apart of a family weekend. My favorite was pickled unripe crab apples! Gallons and Gallon free for the picking. was pickled in Salt Sugar vinegar! would last well over a year! just pop them in my mouth, was better than candy

I''m going a slightly different direction than Brother Dan. I'm padding the long term stash of components of all types......but leaving them unassembled. Only loading as needed. Whoever ends up with my shoot'n irons and stash will not want for ammo for them. The equipment is there. The load data is there.

Part of my reasoning for leaving components vs. loaded ammo was all the objections guys had to shooting someone else's reloads. With components, that objection ought to go away. And if for some reason it gets sold, value of the components ought to be greater than reloaded ammo.

I’m thinking of doing the same. That’s how I did things for years when I was just starting out. I’d load oneseys-n-twoseys using a Lee whack-a-bullet. Back then I was only loading for two cartridges, .38Spl and .357Mag. After I added on .45Auto and .35Rem, that got a little more complicated. Then I did a lot of moving and stopped reloading altogether. I think it’s time to decomplicate and trim down.

How much ammo to store is the starting point... I load every single piece of 357 I own but it never even lasts a year. I have piles of 308 brass empty. Having 1 or 2k of 223 is no big deal at all. Having a mountain of 338 is entirely a different situation...
