Can anyone recommend a loading stand that can be used with a Ruger Old Army ?

Alternatively does anyone have plans that an all-thumbs wood butcher like myself could use to make one ?

Simple Question ( my speciality!) Are you wanting to load the cylinder on the gun or out of the gun?. I do it out of the gun with my 58 and made a stand to fit. Well, a friend did anyway - but to my spec!
Will post the spec if it will help you.

I just purchaced one at Gander Mnt, made by Traditions...It is pretty cheaply made:uhoh: , but it has held up nice so far! If it does break, It'll make a nice pattern:scrutiny: for mak'in one myself:cool:

Would one for a remington new model work?
I am looking for plans for a loading stand for mine, or somewhere to buy one.

i bought a loading stand from thunderridgemuzzleloading. it has helped mea s third hand for my ruger old army, 1858 remington and my 1851 .36cal navy. i can load well without it.

Check out my post on Bench Loaders Ferret and if you want the dims for the loader in post #21 I will post them. Loading the 58 cylinder out of the gun makes it very easy and I also put the caps on which is MUCH easier.

tight wad,

what a beautiful gun! and that picture was beautifully taken.

Tight Wad: Beautiful pistol! I'm going to throw my cheapy stand out and get to constructing one like yours. Exellent craftsmanship!

Beautiful picture, TW!

I purchased a plastic tool box in which to carry all my accessories, and learned it doubled as a loading stand for my OA. Open the lid, lift out the tray, stand the revolver in the bottom, and load away. It could fall to one side, but it's never been a problem for me.

I've seen a lot of variations, and I think you're only limited by your immagination and skill. (side note- I'm in the process of building one for a kentucky pistol and I'm on my 3rd prototype- still not as nice as TW's!)

Good luck,
Doug
