I am planning to reload the .223 ammo. I will be using the 55gr. FMJ boat tail ammo from rmrbullets. Can you folks share your favorite loads for this bullet or smilar bullets?

Thanks.

my standard is 25.5 gr. of varget. i also really really like some of the blue dot loads out there. you can load it from .22 lr to full on .223

I've only been reloading .223 for a couple of months but, so far I've gone through a pound of RL-15 & 2 lbs of Varget.

With the RL-15, I had a bunch of 60 gr blems from MidwayUSA & was able to sight in the rifle very quickly. When the 60s were gone I picked up a couple of bags of Remington 55gr bullets cheap at Cabela's. They didn't have any RL-15 so I went with Varget.

If the RL-15 & 60s were rated on a scale of 0-10, they were a 10 - the 55s & Varget are a 9 1/2+

I really like both. Very accurate in my AR15A1 w/ 20" 1/9 barrel.

Janosbles,
What's your C.O.A.L. on your load?

Hondo,
HOw many grains do you use with the Varget?

Thansk again.

I`ve used Varget, H4895, W748, Benchmark, H332, and 3031 in my 223s and all worked well with most bullet wtgs. The cartridge is not at all fussy about what you feed it.
That said you probably will find a powder that gives a 1/8" smaller groups with one specific bullet then the rest @ 100 if you try a few....That`s the catch, YOU have to try a few and find the one YOUR rifle likes.

25 gr. of H335 behind a 55 gr FMJBT is a widely used "classic" load that is very close to the m193 military load

My favorite "plinking" load.

25+gr Varget w/ 55GR. Hornady PSP! Very tight groups! Hate to say it but I think the AR fell in love with this load!!!!! 1:9 twist DPMS Panther Bull!!!!!!!!!! I gues I m luvin the results also :neener: Good luck!

+1 on the 25 gr H335/55 gr FMJ - I get my best accuracy with H335, and I load 748, 2520, 2460 and a couple others. If I were to standardize, it would be with 335.

I also load a 55gr bullet for my bolt action .223 Rem.

I was using H335 until I gave Varget a try. Shooting @ 100 yards I was able to produce sub 1/2 MOA ammo charging 25.0gr Varget under a Sierra 55gr HPBT GameKing. (Part #1390) I'm going to stick with that combination for a while...

I use IMR4198 for practice loads. Gets about 3000 with a 55 gr and uses 5.0 grains or so less than most other powders.

Me too. Though I hate trying to meter it.

I end up weighing each charge. I use 19.9-20.1 GR IMR-4198 behind a Remington Accu-V 55 Gr bullet. Very accurate.

I like H335 as well with the same bullets. If you have a Lee Auto Disk powder dispenser the biggest hole is about 24.5 gn's of 335 so you can use that without messing with the double disk kit. Meters very well.

I really like 24.8 grains of benchmark under a 55 grain HP dogtown bullet with CCI SR primer. Shot really tight groups from my AR 1:9 16" barrel.

I had some problems with breaking tips off of SP and Polymer tipped bullets when feeding which is why I really like the HP's.

I like H4895 in the 223 and several other calibers too. I use 26.5gr of H4895 under a 52gr Nosler Custom Competition bullet. The last bunch that I chronographed averaged 2880fps out of my 14" Contender with all bullets touching at 50yds. Less than 1/2" group.
