Between black coffee, and shiftn' gears
This is real difficult.

1.One grabs any old shotgun that will fire a slug.

2.Set something like the metal trash can the teenager in the house learning to drive has backed over twice, the lid thrice, and set it out w-a-y down yonder and shoot slugs at it.

Note: It is darn difficult to train parents, and one would think a parent would quit putting the darn trash can in the same spot, where it gets hit.
Teenage lady , just gave up trying to train them on that, just hauled the can and lid out, spray painted it, with left over spray paint of various colors and it looks like the Tin-Man was on some really good stuff heading down the yeller brick road...

We use .410 single shots in kid/youth sizes mostly.
Everybody from only so tall to taller gets to Lobbin'-n-Tossing.

Five gal paint buckets, large coffee cans, balloons, - whatever is fine.
Fun is the deal, hitting the darn thing is a bonus.

Serious lessons are learned with all this fun too.
Memories, good times and all are another bonus.

One can just mount gun to shoulder, get some Southern Elevation and let 'er lob and take note of the dust cloud and make a mental note to lift "upper".

Quite a few of these kids sized .410s don't have beads, as we teach 'em to shoot without beads.

Now sometimes when the fun gets more serious, like betting on where to eat, baking cookies, if a mom or kid is going to clean the bathroom...
Well some Techniques and Hustling comes into play...

Like the time a kid and I were teamed up and we shot spitwads from a straw.
Not to check elevation , instead at other folks to get them tickled, and getting their heart rate up running from us.

We won? *grin*

One lady and her mom...Mom has this PVC pipe and is holding it up and upper looking through it.
Kid is off to the side, with hands making a frame and "upper , more upper... a little more ..."

"Are we throwing off your mental game?" they asked.
"No, just you two looking stupid doing that" we replied.

One of the granpa's gets in the bed of his truck, gets all comfy with a blanket and all and "Listen, if'n you folks want to stand fine by me, I am going to lounge and be comfy doing this".

WE stacked up and made a pyramid of tin cane. Lots of fun, especially for one little lady only so tall.

Did you know a primer only .410 shell, will hit that stack and knock all them down?
Yep, sure will!
She kept telling grandma how high to raise the gun and she tripped trigger with grandma sitting on the ground shouldering the shotgun.

She won, and this means she gets to pick...
Cheese Dip, lots and lots of cheese dip...

*wink*

I recently discovered how much fun .410 slugs are, but I didn't get into any long range stuff. Now I've gotta try.

How far are we talking before it's considered a "lob"? My .410's super flat shooting, like a .300 Mag....well, almost.

Distance:
We have various places, with plenty of safe distance and backstop.
One I don't know, we are shooting over a section of rice paddy. *plop*

I do know a .410 slug falls short of 2.2 miles down that road, where the hillside and "trash can guru sits". It also falls short of 1 mile too.

BB Guns are used on short courses, especially kids, as we use BB Guns to teach shotguns.
