Local PD just called me!

I sent in my application for a C&R FFL to the BATF and also a copy to my CLEO as instructed.
Well, I just received a phone call from a detective with our local PD asking if I was getting my license for retail selling or for personal collecting. I explained that the C&R FFL is not applicable for retail sales, it for collecting. I had to reassure him several times that I was not going to be selling weapons as a business.
As I understand it, the copy sent to the CLEO is a courtesy only anyways. Local PD has no say on whether or not you get your C&R FFL.
I guess if you apply for a C&R here in California expect a call, be polite and maybe we can even teach them a bit about the laws. I really wanted to tell him how little authority he had over this and how much the Federal laws restricted him in this but why? All it would do is annoy me further and aggravate them.

Don't your C&R pistols have to be shipped to an 01?

Just asking to see if anyone who lives there thinks it a worthwhile use of $30 for the hassle of being eyed with greater suspicion by the local bureaucracy.

When a piece of paper gets sent to an agency, something has to be done with it. The detective probably got it in his inbox to "handle" despite not having a clue as to what to do with it.

I live in CA and have yet to receive a call regarding my C&R. The department must have had some problems in the past. Maybe the detective was looking to buy a gun.

That's why they tell you to make sure your cover letter says something like "No action in this matter is required on your part."

I would have refused to assure him of anything. I'd have explained one time what the difference between an 01 and an 03 is, explained that he need not take any action to approve the FFL, and after that I'd have been very quiet if not rude. That's just annoying.

I never heard from my CLEO--I assume they got the letter?

I'm sure it was just a reaction to getting their copies of the forms and just paper pushing, but still....

Kern County never said a word to me about mine. I dropped it off and that was that. Now I need to take it to the local PD (moved), I just haven't gotten around to it yet.
