Lock n Load AP???

I don't know. Turning the powder measure 1/4 turn seems pretty easy even with all the stations full. Mine is anyway. Taking the powder measure apart isnt something that seems like needs to happen .

With all 5 stations full, even getting to my bushing is next to impossible
Still confused, The LNL has more room between die stations than most progressive presses...
you sure as heck aren't gonna turn the whole powder measure to get it out.
Why not?

I normally grab the powder measure just below the linkage and give it a 1/4 turn to free it.

Does your powder measure not rotate from that point?

I don't care if you are confused. For hell sakes guys. I'm not gonna take pictures and give measurements or do a video demo. I really don't care how you take your stupid powder measure off you press. Kick it off, punch it off... I DON'T CARE.

I also use the insert to drain the hopper. I also just take it out with the bushing to dump. It all depends on how I have it setup. Either way works so who cares.

Order a few extra of the shell retaining springs.
If the bolt holding the shell plate works loose you will mangle one.

You can guess how I know this, must be a reason they come in 3 packs....
Despite it's appetite I like the press.

You mean I don't have to unbolt the press and turn the whole thing upside down to drain the powder?

;)

Edit: Midsouth has the AP for $389 + 500 free bullets (for me that would bring the real cost down to $265ish.)

Depending on how you have your powder dispenser die locked down and whats dies are next to it can make it difficult to remove with out taking something else off. Just loosen the lower clamp so the base can turn in the die body to make it easy to remove. This does not impact your settings. I'm one that just removes the whole assembly and dump, even though I have the drain for it.

Don't worry 9mm, I do the same as you. Just unlock the bushing with a twist and lift the whole powder measure out and dump the powder into a funnel sitting on top of the powder bottle. Pick up the baffle and drop it back into the hopper and twist the whole thing back into the press with a 1/4 turn. Can't be simpler than that. I guess some people can't unlock their dies from the "Lock n Load" press. If they have a different way of dumping the powder and it works for them, that's great.

Back to the OP Parman

The LNL AP is a great press. Very versatile. Very easy to set up and use.
Ergonomic, right hand on the handle, left hand feeds cases and bullets.

The only thing you need to get going is shell plates and bunches of bushings.

Tylenol may help with this scenario,,,:)

@ Parman .... I too considered a lnl , but went with the XL 650 instead it's pricey but it's for life....
I read as much as I could on the LNL , I read an article by a machinist " How to tune hornady LNL AP"
on AR 15.com . Very interesting insight and simple fix and great fotos so you can understand what he's talking about....I hope this helps you what ever your decision, and who ever else it might help....Good Luck

Great press, love mine. Cheaper than the 650 for caliber changes.
For what it's worth, I also twist a quarter turn, and dump the powder back in the bottle!

Lock n Load AP???

I'm thinking of buying a LNL AP but before I do would like to here some of the pros and cons. I currently use a single stage and want to get a progressive press to reload 223, 45, 9mm 38/357. I will continue to use my single stage for larger caliber rifle cartridges.

From what I understand I will need to buy my shell plates separate. What else doesn't come with it that is absolutely necessary to get started? I do see a few accessories I will eventually get at time and money permits.

  • pistol rotor with pistol metering insert
  • die bushings
  • expander plug for each cartridge
  • shellplate for each size case
  • spare springs
  • spare shellplate case retention spring
  • powder measure drain insert
  • Inline Fabrications ultramount
  • Inline Fabrications LED strip
  • flexlight to view powder charge during bullet placement
  • Inline Fabrications short Ergo handle
  • solid bench
  • Velcro straps for Flexlight mounting
  • batteries for Flexlight, preferably rechargeable

Well after listening to you guys on the forum, You Tube videos and some research I pulled the trigger on a new press. Got is all cleaned and set up it runs like a champ so far. I've cranked out 500 rounds with it already with a few minor issues. Mainly operator error getting familiar with the equipment. Only thing I don't like is the primer feeding tube. I don't care for picking them up one at a time with the pickup tube. Other than that I'm a happy camper.

I didn't care for that either. I just bit the bullet and got a Vibra prime...and extra tubes

Frankford Arsenal makes a vibratory primer tube filler which is hit and miss for $50.00.
Dillon makes a bench type primer tube filler for $325.00 + another $50.00 to convert from big to small or small to big depending on what you originally purchased.

I still pick them up manually but I prefer the Dillon tubes to the Hornady ones.

Dillon sells 2 small + 2 large tubes with spare ends for $32.00.

You'll be really glad you did.

I usually load up 5 tubes (1 in press, 1 in Vibra Prime tube, 3 spares) and take a break after 500 rounds. I mark the primer follower rod with tape so I know when I'm getting close to the last primer, switch out bullet tubes at the same time.

Hornady LnL AP Press

I have 2 Hornady LnL AP presses. 1 for 9mm and 1 for 45ACP. Well worth it especially when you get 500 free Hornady XTP bullets for each press. Optics Planet I found to beat any online company out there with free shipping over $50. The one thing I find with Hornady products is that everyone appears to sell there products. Purchase the shell plate for your caliber, taper crimp die set, powder cop and bullet feeder die which comes with a PTX expander which goes into the case activated powder drop.

Station #1; sizing/depriming die
Station #2; Powder measure and case activated powder drop
Station #3; Powder cop die
Station #4; Bullet feeder die
Station #5; Bullet seater/crimp die

You can certainly add some convenient accessories like bullet feeder and case feeder to speed up loading as well. Boom! you're done!! Good luck!!
