My family is about to inherit some acreage in Logan County Ohio. Are any members of this august body familiar with the area and any hunting opportunities that may present themselves?
Thanks all!

Thanks..

Thanks GUnbabe...The area in question is about 20-30 minutes from Marysville. Still mostly farms and such. Was hoping some hunting types may be from the area.

When you visit, remember that Bellefontaine is pronounced "Bell Fountain" by the locals. :D

We do a lot of that in Ohio. It helped identify the furriners and revenuers... :neener:

actually...

I used to be a local, I was yanked out of ohio (kicking & screaming I may add) when my father was transferred. Is it really buckshot/slugs only for deer?

GO BUCKEYES!!!!!!!!!!

Slugs only except for black powder which must be in excess of .38 in diameter. No buckshot. Editorial comment\on Kind of an arcane rule given the current generation of black powder rifles editorial comment\off.

Let's see, Logan County. That's just to the south of me. What is the character of the land you're inheriting? This section of Ohio is a patchwork of small woodlots and open fields. Logan begins to reach the end of the glaciation, and becomes more rolling than the flatlands farther north. As for what game is in the area, there are the usual whitetails, whitetails, whitetails, turkeys and groundhogs. Occasionally a fox, rarely a coyote. Also somewhat rare are any upland birds. IIRC, logan has also had sightings of wild boar, recently. DNR is treating them as a pest that should be eradicated. Shoot on sight, etc. I've not seen any, myself, though.

I don't remember what public land there is in logan county, right off, but it shouldn't be too hard to find out.

Actually Matt my family has a 150 Acre farm in Bellefontaine. I have not been there personally for a bit over 5 years but wanted to know what the hunting was like in the area. The farm is quite open and is pretty much surronded by other farms and a golf-course.....I'm primarly interested in White-tail and turkey.

Beautiful country, great people, lots of woods, rolling hills, and wildlife. Located along state route #33 about 45 miles southeast of Columbus, between Lancaster and Athens.

I grew up in Dayton.

with a 150 acre farm you should have plenty of deer as long as there are woods/cover nearby. here are the regs:

I am visiting my parents around christmas near Lebanon, OH (about an hour away from you) and thinking about borrowing my uncle's muzzleloader and hunting the Dec 27-30 season either on their land or some public areas nearby. They only have 6 acres fully wooded with a farm on one side and still see tons of deer. They are like rats in Ohio - tasty rats mind you.

I only wish that I was there to partake of the local "rats". I might see about burning off some of this pesky vacation time...hmmmmm
