This two-day course will cover aggressive first aid for moderate to severe injuries/illnesses. The AHA Heartsaver AED course will be taught on the morning of the first day. This entire course will be classroom orientated with lecture and a majority of the time utilizing hands-on skills training out in a field setting . The students will participate in the skills training as individuals and as a team throughout both days. CareFlite will fly out a helicopter, real life missions and weather pending. Some of the subjects covered in this course:
 Medical & Legal Issues
 Body Substance Isolation; Use of Protective Barrier Devices
 Basic Anatomy & Physiology
 AHA Heartsaver AED; CPR w/ AED
 Patient Assessment
 Penetrating & Blunt Trauma; GSW, Stabbings, Crush Injuries
 Medical Emergencies; Stroke, Diabetic Emergencies
 Fractures & Sprains; Broken Bones
 Burns; Thermal, Electrical, etc.
 Environmental Emergencies
 Animal/insect bites
 Heat & cold injuries
 Dehydration prevention (Caleb’s favorite)
 Shock; Management and Treatment
 Tourniquets & Hemostatic Bandages; QuickClot, Celox
 Movement of Patients (how, when & when not to)
 LZ operations; CareFlite provides a helicopter
 911 Communications
 First Aid Kits & Equipment Selection
Lone Star Medics is made up of highly motivated individuals who have vast experience in emergency medicine.
Caleb Causey started his career riding out with Medstar ambulance services in Fort Worth Texas; as part of the Boy Scouts of America’s Explorer program at the age of 16. After high school he joined the U.S. Army as a Combat Medic. Caleb has deployed to various locations in the Balkans; where he has worked as a line medic with the 82nd Airborne and in the ER of the 212 MASH. He especially enjoyed his duty as an OPFOR Medic while stationed in Louisiana. After serving his country, Caleb joined the City of Benbrook’s Fire Department and served there as a volunteer Firefighter/EMT. Over the next several years Caleb was involved with the department’s rescue dive team and worked as the Tactical Medic with local area SWAT team. Caleb also has worked with multiple Private Military/Security Companies as a Medic and as an Operator. Caleb has completed Paramedic school in College Station, Texas. This is where he attained his American Heart Association’s BLS Instructor, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support certifications, Heartsaver Instructor, and Emergency Medical Services Instructor for the state of Texas. Caleb has proven to have a true passion for teaching medicine to people of all walks of life. Most of his classes are full of knowledge, experience, and laughter.
Lone Star Medics also utilizes the professional experiences of some very unique individuals in the emergency medical field. The following assistant instructors have very extensive knowledge in each of their specific fields and backgrounds. All of the Lone Star Medics staff and instructors are Veterans of the United States Military
