I picked up a old Browning SA22 that has a barrel mounted scope mount. The way it’s setup now you have to stretch out your neck to get a good view through the scope. This is not comfortable and the scope is set all the way back. I’d like to try a lower power scope with around a 6” eye relief. This is a small gun so I would like to keep the scope small also. I’m wondering if a scout style scope might fit the bill? Got any suggestions? Thanks.

Ive got an older simmons LER scope on my 22-250 bolt action pistol. It has held up well.

Personally, i like LER scopes due to the way my eyes focus. The rear iron sights on my ARs are set near the front of the receiver because i cant focus through them when at the rear of the receiver. Ive even had a red dot mounted on the end of a handguard before.

Neck is stretched all the way forward and the scope is as rearward as it can go in the barrel mount?

Hmmm. Could cut the stock shorter, nah that's no good.

A typical scout scope is going to have eye relief around 9". There used to be a selection of shotgun scopes with eye reliefs around 5", but I don't know if those are now rare.

Of course, there is this Leupold with 6" eye relief. https://www.leupold.com/vx-freedom-15-4x28-ier-scout-duplex-riflescope

I have had good luck with the Vortex Crossfire II Scout Scope 2x7x32 and the Hi-Lux LER 2x7x32. My favorite is an old Nikon Monarch EER 2.5x8x28 which is sad that it is no longer made.

Whilst this is labeled as a handgun scope, it's the same scout scope I have on my Ruger GSR. The only possible complaint would be glare when the sun is low and behind me, but that's easily resolved with a flip up lens cover that helps shroud the rear lens from ambient light.

The eye relief in generous in range. If you think it might be of interest, I can measure that range for you.

the leupold fxii 2.5x has about a 5" eye relief, and would be just about right size and magnification for that gun. https://www.leupold.com/fx-ii-ultralight-25x20-wide-duplex-riflescope

I have one on a marlin 1894.

I also have this scope, on my Ruger Guide Gun. Pretty generous eye relief on this too, but optically fuzzy around the edges.

I have a Hi-Lux 2-7x32 Long Eye Relief on my Ruger GSR. Very easy to pick up and a solid sight picture.

I have a Bushnell Banner with 6 inch eye relief, they have models that have anywhere from 3 to the 6 inch eye relief model that I have.
