I am thinking of buying a long slide 1911; possibly a Les Baer stainless "concept gun". The usual questions and comments about 1911 reliability etc aside, does anyone have experience with long slide guns? Is there some fundamental problem with the long guns or does it just boil down to who's gun you buy? I will be using this for concealed carry but the size is not an issue; I have a really good method for carrying large guns. I am thinking of the long slide because I have noticed that my HK Mark 23 gives me +P velocities with standard ammo; due probably to the longer barrel. I figure a long slide with 185 grain standard ammo will give me all the performance of a .40 cal or even some 10mm without the high pressure and added battering to the gun. I don't want to carry the Mark 23 cocked and locked as the safety is miniscule and I know I could easily miss disengaging it in an emergency and the DA first round is "difficult" at best. Also, a long slide 1911 would be a bit more comfortable to carry.
