I love my little Ruger, but have been thinking about getting a full-sized double-stack semi-auto for a while. I have a Ruger SR9c, but would rather have a longer slide than the full-sized SR9. Nothing against it, but 3.5" versus 4.1" doesn't gain much in what I would think would affect accuracy. Or am I wrong for looking past it? They could share the 17 round magazines, so that's a big plus.

I would like to get a pistol with near a 5" barrel. I am also thinking that adjustable sights and an external hammer would be nice. I am generally more of a revolver guy and don't have a preference toward one brand over another, or of metal versus poly frames. I would like to get at least 17 rounds per magazine, having extended magazines would be a bonus if there are reliable options available that don't double the cost of the factory ones. I have big hands, so a bulky frame doesn't bother me much.

I'm after something fun for shooting, but not too interested in competition. It might also serve home defense duty for the family when I am away with my Ruger (my wife doesn't seem too interested in revolvers).

I like the Beretta 92/Taurus 92/99 variants. I haven't found a Glock that feels comfortable in my hand (plus I don't care for their visual aesthetics). I'm not looking for a 1911 platform, but I do like the classic look. Plus I also don't want to go crazy on cost since I don't collect for value. All my firearms end up showing wear quickly.

Does anyone have any suggestions that I should consider?

Have you looked at the Ceska Zbrojoka CZ-75 Tactical Sport?

You might consider the American Tactical AT92. It's a Turkish clone of the Beretta 92 and accepts Beretta factory magazines. CDNN sells them for $299.00 and I couldn't be happier with the one I purchased. A HUGE value for that kind of money. The downside would be that the sights are not adjustable, but mine was dead accurate out of the box.

caliber? price?

Hello All
recently i was looking for what you describe.
well not that i really needed another pistol but!!!
300.00$ plus tax.
300 rounds later and i like it. i wouldnt tell anyone what they should buy although this one i really like. (one stovepipe arount round 130) other than that

STI is just down the road in the next town, so I've looked at a few of their offerings. Unfortunately, the Trojan or Spartan are about all I can afford. The Eagle 5" and 6" look beautiful, but $2k is just too rich for my blood.

The Beretta 92 has my attention, anyone know offhand about any reliability differences between the original and its clones? The Taurus PT99 looks interesting if it's durable, with a rail and adjustable sights. Looks like it's more practical than others I have been considering.

The CZ75 SP01 looks like it might fit the bill too with higher than average capacity.

The CZs are awesome, and the PT92/99is the single gun that Taurus makes that no one will knock. I don't think Taurus is a bad company, but you do hear a lot of people complain about them, but never the 92/99s. Can't go wrong with one, though it's big if you were to be interested in caryring it ever.
