Looking at the current situation in the world, I'm wondering about the continued availablilty of 7.62x39 ammo to us here in the US. Am I wrong to be concerned about this? Would It be smart to look at an AR??

My 2 cents is, yes lots of countries are stocking up on it, not much of it is getting into the U.S. and perhapse global unplesantries will cause the supply to dry up further.

However.... when the unplesantries are over, its going to flood the market.

An AR is always a good Idea to have around, parts are easy to come by, and ammo is made domesticaly. they are also much more acurate.

While it is nice to standardize on a single rifle calibre for intermediate ranges, the more different cartridges your guns can take, the better off you are as an avid shooter.

you can always find some kind of ammo cheap, and your not forced to buy the pricy stuff.

I don't really see a reason to be worried about the demise of the 7.62x39mm cartridge or the availability of it seeing as how the AK-47 was the most produced firearm of all time.

I wouldn't be worried about it in my lifetime. Too many people in the US own AK-47s to be worried about the availability of it. They couldn't just simply stop having it available.

Remington, Winchester, and Federal all load it. Being that they are American companies and the rather obvious quantities of SKS and AK not to mention assorted bolt/break/single shot rifles chambered in this cartridge they'd be ignoring a massive demand for an inexpensive to make round.
