Wondering if anyone here has the Sig 556R (Russian) and would care to share thoughts concerning accuracy?

A Gen 2 model has shown up locally, I'm considering it.

My Oly Arms 7.62x39 upper is currently punching 1-1.5 MOA groups for me at 100 yards with bloc ammo, my previously-owned Century AK was not even close to that.

Anyway, I like Sig products, just wondering about this one.

Thanks.

I don't know if there calling the caliber the turd or not, As far as the rifle goes I have the 716 DMR, Ive had many AR and AR 10s, Nothing comes close to my SIG its hands down a top notch Quality Rifle, My buddy has a LWRC the only thing he has over mine is weight, Mine the test target from factory was
.332 I shoot 1/2 easy with it, Never a problem at all, Another friend of mine has the 716 patrol it also shoots 1/2 to 3/4 with no problem, I would choose a 716 over the 7.62x39 any day off the week or year. Its really not that good of caliber, Its cheap that's about it, There are a lot better calibers out there than that one. If I were spending the money on a SIG I wouldn't degrade it with that caliber, Buy a sks or ak, Ruger 30, saiga, Make the rifle match the round CHEAP!!

I ordered a 556R and the CH hit the receiver in recoil, denting it. I sent in back and was informed that Sig didn't have the parts to do a repair.

They replaced it with a 556XI, in 556 NATO. Which I sold as NIB.

It's funny hearing all these 556r stories. When the S&W Sport first came out I hustled down to a store 45 minutes away to get one before they sold out. The guy at the counter gave me the third degree how the Sport is "cheap and AR's in general are disposable crap, prone to cracking". He then touted the virtues of the 556r and how it was a "superior rifle in every way".

I was not deterred.:p

the sigs are superior in every way.. on paper, unfortunately it seems sig has been cutting corners and quality control has been suffering greatly, their earlier 556 rifles werent bad at all but their newer renditions seem to have one issue after another, including poor, sloppy fitment.. if sig doesnt get their act together theyre going to lose a lot of money on them

I owned 2. Both are gone now because I thought the stamped bulgarian AK to be more durable. Accuracy of both of mine was very similar. You could get three shots to group pretty close then a shot would double the group. With a leupold scope mounted solid with all russian and 2 types of US ammo the average performance was 3moa. They were fast shooting rifles, reliable, and the hammer strike on the primer was very strong which is a good thing. One of the rifles had a defect which needed factory repair as well.

716s sound like awesome rifles. Sigs ARs seem much better than their 556 series.
