I am going to store 2 of my pistols for a few years . I am going to coat them in RIG grease . It is an excellent gun preserving grease , but it is thick .
My question is this : Should I use some regular oil to pour into the tight channels and crevices to protect that area since I cant get grease into that area ?
I am thinking of using Mobil 1 20-W50 . It is thick but thin enough to go into tight areas .
Does this sound ok ?
I forgot to add that I am storing them in heavyduty plastic zip lock bags with the air taken out .

They look good but I am still wondering about my question regarding the oil into the channels .
Thanks for the link .

With the grips off, spray the interior lockwork & cracks with any of the better rust preventives like Eezox or whatever.

Wipe down the excess and apply the RIG to all exposed exterior surfaces.

Store in a silicone gun sock so it can breath.
You would be better off then sealing it in a zip-lock bag with trapped humidity.

Easy long term storage all you need is a plastic zip lock bag large enough for the gun, some rust-blox tabs or VCI gunwrap paper and electric bag sealer. Do not use VCI on brass or aluminum or old laquer stocks. Normally clean your gun, light oil and wrap it with whichever rust inhibitor you chose. Place it in the plastic and squeeze as much air out as possible and seal with the sealer. Must have some type of inhibitor though! Excessive oil over time will actually deteriate any wood on the firearm. I have seen old surplus rifles soaked for 60 years and fall apart from the metal once you attempt to dissassemble them because of oil. Oil can also trap moisture causing pits. Hope it helps!

thanks, the 2 I am storing are all metal , one being a Sig P-6 . I guess I'll drench it good on the inside with oil and then coat it thick with RIG then stick it in a bag .

Old time Axle Grease ( the 'Brown' sort ) wiped liberally in and on a Clean Pistol...Pistol then wrapped in a cloth...can work very well.

If I were going to put some Guns away for a long time, I would use Axle Grease, then wrap them like 'mummies' in Muslin.

If a minty Pistol were wiped down well with Axle Grease, and wrapped in Muslin, and put into a Box, it could have sat in King Tut's Tomb a few thousand years, and later been cleaned off with Solvent, and found to be 100 percent alright for the nap.

Probably Bee's Wax would work well also, molten, warm the degreased and clean Arm, and dip or brush on.

That'd keep it for-ever...
