I heard of one guy who kept an AR with a collapsing stock in one.

You could easily fit a folding stock short-barrel rifle in one. It certainly doesn't look like a gun case. The standard size (from me looking at tennis racquets on Amazon.com) is 27 inches or so. Plenty of room for a folding stock and a 20 inch barrel.

I think it would be neat to have an Enfield No.5 Jungle Carbine with composite furniture and a folding stock.

Does anyone use a tennis racquet case for a longgun?

Edit: Doh! Not quite the right forum for this, after looking at the full description. Sorry mods. Maybe Rifle Country?

Thanx for the idea!

I can fit my PDW(10 1/2" AR-15 pistol) in there without breaking it in half! Not too many people would steal a tennis racket out of the back of your car, and I am concealed carrying it so legal, since my PDW is technically a pistol in the eyes of the law. SWEET:evil:

Too Many Choices!? and thanx for another:)

Be advised many States consider carrying a firearm in something that does not look like a gun case (i.e. violin or tennis racquet case) as concealed carry. Concealed carry with out a permit is a long prison term in many States.

Although I think in some places a firearm carried partially disassembled so it can’t fire is not concealed carry. If this is true where you live, then a take-down rifle in a tennis racquet case might be OK.

In any event, I’d check my local laws carefully before I tried anything like this.

I'm a musician and I often carry my Bushmaster or one of my 870s in a Fender Stratocaster hard guitar case. Nobody ever gives it a second look.

Criminals will steal anything that they think they can get money for. Tennis racket cases are fair game.

That said, I helped a friend build a guitar case to hold an AR15. We stripped out the felt and foam that lined the case and replaced it layers of 1" poly foam, similar to what camping sleep pads are made out of, except it was bright green instead of blue. A cutout was made for the rifle, magazines, and ammo boxes. Neat but very large compared to a rifle case.

The only problem I can see with a racket ball case and a 16"+ barrel is the sight tower may be too tall in the handle area of the case.

Only if you are carrying the firearm on your person, or in some states in your car in a ready-to-use condition. A tennis racket case could also be very useful when simply taking the rifle to the range, if you lived in an apartment or something and didn't want everyone in your complex to know you owned a rifle or whatever. If the gun is trigger locked or otherwise secured (or disassembled), I think it would be legal most anywhere in such a context, though I'm not a lawyer.

I use a sort of gunsock I made from one leg of a pair of worn-out jeans. An hour of hand-stitching (I REALLY wish I had a machine), and I've got a decent cover for my rifle. It's primarily there to keep dust at bay, not so much for corrosion-resistant storage. The big advantage to it is that when walking into Dionysusigma's place, in a rough neighborhood, I can hold it down along my right leg (I wear jeans most of the time) and it is camoflauged from the casual eye. I wouldn't rely on it for any kind of secure storage at home, in the car, or anywhere else. Locked cases secured to something real heavy are the only way to go for that.

I don't believe that I've ever seen reference to any state law that specifies a firearm has to be carried or transproted in something that looks like a gun case (whatever that may be). Could you please provide some specific examples?

I think a guitar-case would be a higher priority item to steal than a tennis racket :uhoh:...Tennis racket 19.99 at Walli World, what are they going to do, pawn it for 2 dollars...Guitar at walli world 59.99, might get almost 15 bucks for that...Thanx for the concern but I will stick with the less ubiquitous sporting goods as concealment for concealed carry of my weapons...

I posted this before...Uses (3) layers of foam, middle layer cut to outline of rifle.:)

Y'all are about 35 years too late:D My cousin got a sawed off 12ga mailed to him in Nam using a tennis racket bag as the "cover". This was in the days of wooden racquets, so the stiffener was fastened over the grip and receiver, and the barrels fitted into the bottom of the bag so it "looked" like a racquet to the post office. He had to do this, as he couldn't get one issued (helo driver, not a grunt).

Wouldn't that be a little cramped in the cockpit?

Nope, they had em strapped to the inside of the ceramic side plate. It was ready to hand if needed, and he told me it was needed a couple of times.

I considered there might be a cranny he could store it, but I wasn't sure.

Well, here is an example from Arizona:

http://www.packing.org/oldnews/article/?article=10106
(ARS § 13-3102 (F)).”
“A weapon is not concealed, for the purposes of this provision, if the weapon is carried in a belt holster which holster is wholly or partially visible, or carried in a scabbard or case designed for carrying weapons (other than a “fanny pack,” purse, backpack, lunch box, briefcase, or other container that is specially designed to carry a weapon in a concealed manner) which scabbard or case is wholly or partially visible, … or carried in a container that is clearly labeled as containing a weapon.”

I understand in most states the Law and/or case history defines “concealed carry” as having a firearm on your person in a way the average person would not know you have a firearm. If you are walking down the street from your home to where you parked your car with your shotgun in a gun case, and the old lady neighbor call the cops, that’s not concealed carry. The reason she called the cops was she identified the case a gun case, so you were not concealing your shotgun. But if you are standing on a drug corner with your handgun in a fanny pack, backpack, shopping bag, etc, that is concealed carry.

In Wisconsin a gun case is described as a divice that was made to hold a firearm and can be held closed by itself, fully encasing the gun.

nephew went to a college where no firearms were allowed and as he was out of state, he had no one nearby to lean on for hunting gun storage. He used the rectangular Guitar case for two years living in the dorm. Ammo was in the car, the guitar case locked and under his bed. No one the wiser. He still uses it as he lives in a changing neighborhood and does not want to tempt fate.
