I've been thinkin' of getting an autoloader for duck hunting. Now, I like the Mossberg 935 and have a perfectly good 500 pump, but autochuckers soak up some of the recoil of heavy steel loads.
We were going to the HEB (food supermarket) and there's a pawn shop in the same shopping center there that I decided to check out, first. There were a few shotguns on a rack. One I could see was an 870 of some kind, couple of other pumps, and this 11-87. I asked to check it out, fits well, finish is a bit worn, black plastic stocks. It'd work if I could just get a left hand safety on it. I won't buy it if I can't get a left hand safety. I put one on my Winchester, finally, after finding that numrich arms had one in stock. Had to have a gunsmith do it, was a little complicated. Now, I'd just use the Winchester, fine duck gun in its own right and an auto, but I don't wanna mess up the wood and bluing in the marsh. This 11-87 is already messed up, so I'd probably rattle can it with rustoleum or something. The stocks are black plastic, perfect.
The guy wants 387 for it, don't sound TOO bad. It's heavy, but has a shortish barrel, looks 24" or so, points just fine in the shop, pull length feels good, comes to my eye well. Now, I've been trying to sell a scooter store motorized wheelchair I'd bought for my late wife for 300 bucks. I'm thinkin' they'd probably offer 100, maybe 150, I could tell 'em if they toss in that shotgun, I'll take 200 for the chair, boot 187 plus tax. They would probably go for that as it would involve a sale. If not, I don't really NEED the gun. It is a good bit heavier than my 500 and would not be as quick on fast moving teal, I bet. I'm sorta off on it, but it IS an 11-87 and I'd kinda like to have it and it does fit well.
Haven't inspected the bore or the choke or o rings, whatnot. Would do that first. I just want to know if there's a left hand safety available for it? If I can't put a lefty safety on the thing, I will probably pass on it.
