I've been thinkin' of getting an autoloader for duck hunting. Now, I like the Mossberg 935 and have a perfectly good 500 pump, but autochuckers soak up some of the recoil of heavy steel loads.

We were going to the HEB (food supermarket) and there's a pawn shop in the same shopping center there that I decided to check out, first. There were a few shotguns on a rack. One I could see was an 870 of some kind, couple of other pumps, and this 11-87. I asked to check it out, fits well, finish is a bit worn, black plastic stocks. It'd work if I could just get a left hand safety on it. I won't buy it if I can't get a left hand safety. I put one on my Winchester, finally, after finding that numrich arms had one in stock. Had to have a gunsmith do it, was a little complicated. Now, I'd just use the Winchester, fine duck gun in its own right and an auto, but I don't wanna mess up the wood and bluing in the marsh. This 11-87 is already messed up, so I'd probably rattle can it with rustoleum or something. The stocks are black plastic, perfect. :D

The guy wants 387 for it, don't sound TOO bad. It's heavy, but has a shortish barrel, looks 24" or so, points just fine in the shop, pull length feels good, comes to my eye well. Now, I've been trying to sell a scooter store motorized wheelchair I'd bought for my late wife for 300 bucks. I'm thinkin' they'd probably offer 100, maybe 150, I could tell 'em if they toss in that shotgun, I'll take 200 for the chair, boot 187 plus tax. They would probably go for that as it would involve a sale. If not, I don't really NEED the gun. It is a good bit heavier than my 500 and would not be as quick on fast moving teal, I bet. I'm sorta off on it, but it IS an 11-87 and I'd kinda like to have it and it does fit well.

Haven't inspected the bore or the choke or o rings, whatnot. Would do that first. I just want to know if there's a left hand safety available for it? If I can't put a lefty safety on the thing, I will probably pass on it.

Yes. Fortmann's makes a left handed safety that is a drop in (no gunsmithing) for the Remington 870, 1100, and 11-87. It's cheap at less than $20.00 You can get it from Midway's among other places.

I have one floating around here somewhere but decided to leave all my shotguns with the standard right handed safety so the manual of arms would be consistent. Then I went as screwed that all up by buying a left-handed 11-87 for skeet/clays.

Thanks. That's good to know. I order reloading stuff and other stuff from midway all the time. I shoulda checked there, I guess. Don't know if I'll get this thing, but might. Good to know I can switch it or an 870 over to left hand safety. I have a friend with an 870 that I keep expecting to ask me if I want it, too. LOL I don't really care much for the 870 express vs my Mossberg, but hell, if the price is right and I can fix the safety, can always use yet ANOTHER 12 gauge. I'd really like that 11-87 for a duck gun, though. The added weight and gas operation should make it a peach to shoot with heavy steel loads. :D

I just checked the Midway site. It say's they'll be back in stock 2/13. That's only 2 weeks if you can wait that long.
