ONly a couple guns come to mind when you say 300wsm. Winchester model 70 and browning has one as well. Go to winchesters web site and you can see pics. wally world has the 70 super shadow.

.300wsm

BergaminoCAV--IMHO, you'll look long and hard before finding something better in .300WSM than the Savage Model 12. It comes in several variations; all are cheap for what you get because of that "ugly, awful" bbl nut. And the stock also forms the mag; there is no metal mag, just the stock cut-out.

But the Accu-trigger is nice for a factory trigger, the price is great, and I like mine very much. I have the Model 12BVSS, which means heavy bbl, stainless steel. It also has a target-style laminated stock. It is a heavy gun to lug around, but I didn't buy it to lug around, I bought it to shoot. And BOY, does it SHOOT!! :)

Yes, Savage are great guns for the money. Though I do have some complaints about mine. The spring in the magazine well is kind of a joke. Especially for feeding a physically uneven round like the .22-250. I have the older model - no Accutrigger. Bah.
How much are you looking to spend?
Ruger maybe? Absolutely solid. I have an M77 MkII and the Mauser bolt-action is as smooth as silk. Superior bolt configuration to the Savage in my opinion.
Then there's Browning with their A-bolt. Short throws even made shorter with that chambering.

haha, price doesnt matter, i got plenty of money to spend on it, and i was looking at the savage and brownings, but now you have me thinking of another ruger, I have the Mini 14 and Mini 30 and they are both great guns!

Plenty of Moo-lah!

bergaminoCAV--Wish I had that problem. In that case, I too would look at the Ruger Model 77 Mk II Target, in .300WSM. I have that gun in .243Win, and frankly it superficially resembles the Savage I mentioned above, quite a bit.

Except that, as stated, the M-77 is basically a modern Mauser. Really slick smooth bolt action. Trigger is better than OK, but I might end up replacing it. You'll have to decide on that for yrself.

If you're having trouble spending all that money, apply to THR and we will happily outline countless methods of separating it from you, painlessly.

Second the Kimber. For it's incredibly light weight, mine shoots quite well. This rifle weighs 6.25 lbs. with scope. Mine is in 7mm WSM. About 15% less recoil than the .300 WSM with similar wt. bullets. In a rifle this light, I notice the difference in recoil.

So I went to look at some guns and I just couldnt put down the Ruger M77 MK II..I got the black synthetic with the 24" stainless barrel! I figured Im gonna be beatin on this rifle so thats what made me choose synthetic, plus I like the looks of it. :D

if you like the ruger, you will watn to marry a savage with the accutrigger, and you will want to have the winny coyote or super shadow as a live in girlfriend with her own apartment. Plus that SAvage will be about as accurate as you will see for a rifle under 1000. bucks.

Just bought a Kimber Super America 8400 in 338 Win Mag and am tickled to find a gun of this quality with a true Mauser action, 26 inch barrel, and Winchester 3 postion wing safety. Also according to a ballistics testing friend of mine, Kimbers are far more accurate than the old Winchesters, either the pre-64s or the Classics. So I am now looking for a 270 in another
Kimber 8400 Super America. Nice pair to do anything in North America with.

Sorry its been a while since I have been on here, this was a subscribed thread I must of had, but If you look back I baught the rifle in July of 06 lol....I love it for deer hunting, good round, accurate, no kick, thats why I got it. It is the only short mag I like.
