I'm looking at a Remington Rand, but need some help. Seller states frame serial # is 1544xxx.

Unfortunately I'm unable to check if that would be a Remington Rand frame. And if it is the correct frame for the slide.

Here are the pictures I was sent. HS marked barrel.

Anything I should look for to ensure the parts are correct? Seller is asking $1300. Is this a fair price?

Refinished?

thanks all,

154xxx would not be a 1911A1. The picture seems to show the SN as 1544xxx, which would be a M1911A1 made by R-R. The inspector marking should be "FJA" (Frank J. Atwood, Chief of the Rochester Ordnance District and Army Inspector of Ordnance. Of course, Col. Atwood did not inspect guns himself, but his initials showed that the gun had passed inspection).

What I can see looks good.

That serial number should place it as being 1943 production. High Standard (HS on the barrel), made most of the barrels for Remington Rand's M1911A1 pistols. I think it looks to be in decent condition and that $1300 would be a fair price for this gun. You might also want to check out the Remington Rands on sale at some of the various online auction sites (Gunbroker or GunsAmerica), to get an idea of what some of the asking prices are for guns in similar condition as the one you're looking at. Let us know how it goes.

Nice gun. What is the condition of the bore? This has a lot to do with value. A light pitting is not unexpected, considering the ammo of the day, and it will still shoot just fine; but heavy pitting makes it a three figure gun.
