I am looking for a 9mm pistol.

I like the glock for its inexpensive price. I also like the xd pistol. I love the walther p99 series as I own one in the .40 SW.

The question is what would you recommend? I would love to get a "certified" pre owned sig 226 but my local Sheels does not have any in stock.

They carry glocks, XDs, Rugers, CZ, Kimber, Walther, Smith and Wesson. They can probably order just about anything. They did order my p99 for me.

The Glock 19 is a great shooter!

I was trying to get my hands on an XD in .40, but no go in Mass. Thought about the Sig 226 too and a couple of others.

Go to CDNN's website and download their firearms catalog to your computer desktop. Then take a look at the great deals they offer on the NIB Steyr M9, and the used/though excellent condition SIG P225. They also have some great prices for FN Hi-Powers, and S&W 5906. They may also have some deals on Walther's P99. Their prices are hard to beat.

This is my daily carry piece, the CZ P-01.

14+1 of 9mm, alloy frame, extremely accurate, feels great in the hand, and much more reliable than my POS Kimber...

XD9 series

I recommend the SA XD series. I own all three sizes and use the XD9 sub compact [3"] as my daily CCW carry. It is the best value [quality & price] in the market place right now. Use the money you save for training. Second choice would be a CZ 75. If you are going to use it for carry try the P01.

Go with an old school Sig 228 and you won't be sorry. It is a proven gun (Federal Issue and Military M11 designation) and it is probably the second most accurate Sig (only second to the 220 .45 acp.) It is actually very surpisingly accurate for a 4" barrel. I just put another 150 rounds through mine yesterday (total 1150) and I have never had a hiccup. I have a Glock 19 and Glock 17 too which are both guns but both have been seeing more safe time than anything else. The nice thing about the Sig over the Glock is the ability to more safely, not entirely safe, stuff it in your waistband while going out to take out the trash or walk the dog. The decocker is nice too.

I can't give it a higher recommendation.

P.S. If you have smaller hands, go with the Sig 225. Another awesome piece.

CZ P-01 or the G19 are both hard to beat for a solid all around. I haven't handled the XD so I can't comment. I think SIGs are nice and extremely well built but feel the muzzle sits too high above the hand for rapid follow up shots. I ran my old 228 against a G19 and came up with that theory so it may be bogus as it wasn't very scientific in any way.

I agree, but they are two completely different types of guns...I now prefer a gun with a good decocker. So like Stasher1, I also carry my CZ P01, which is identical to his except I just bought mine a brand new set of natural birch grips from HAKAN for it's first month birthday :D ...

I've been tempted to order a set of Hakan's grips for my P-01, but it really needs a good set of night sights first. Function over fashion. ;)

Go to a big store/gunshow/firing range and pick up as many 9mm's as you can. Decide which one(s) feel(s) best in your hand. If you still can't decide, go to a firing range with rentals and rent as many as you can.
Pick the one you like best.
I'd consider anything made by Sig, CZ, and Glock. I'd also consider Browning/FN Hi-Powers and Springfield XD's, as well as Beretta 92's.
Good luck,

David

I went to my local sheel's.

I liked the xd-9 the 3.5 or 4 inch barrel i believe. really liked how it felt in my hand. I also drooled over the hk p7m8...dang. They have a nice HK usp but its in .40 SW. A sig 229, a few rugers. I was about to put my money down on the XD.. untill I asked about the Sig, Certified program. The Store manager said he just printed out a confirmation email from the higher ups saying they will be participating in that program. They told me that I may be able to get a "re certified" sig for 450-550 range. They are going to contact me ASAP if they get a few 226s in. I cannot wait. IF the sig deal falls through.. They said they will give me a XD for 425 3 magazines, a holster, case... nice deal. I really want to be a sig owner.

I am willing to go for the XD as I just picked up Guns and Ammo's "Handguns" magazine and it had the XD torture test in it. Wow... Nice pistol.

Another vote for the SIG-SAUER P228. :D Great firearms, but a little hard
too find sometimes. :(

Another excellent choice is a 3rd generation model 6906 Smith N' Wesson.
Its a stainless-alloy combination with a DAO fire control system that makes
for an excellent CCW piece. It has a 3.5" barrel, and Novak 3-dot sights
and a ambi safety; at only 27.5 ozs. I prefer it over any of the plastic
combo guns! :uhoh: I recently picked one up for $235 with 3 standard
capacity magazines, box, and doc's. The original owner test fired it and
decided it wasn't for him, and traded it in on a stainless Kimber TLE/II.
