Been looking for a 308 rifle. If there is one you recommend. I haven't handled any so far. Except for the socom 16. I want it to have 20 rounds, 16" barrel, flash hider and iron sights. No need for a scope. I don't like direct impingement like the ar style rifles. So that is not on the list.

I didn't vote, as I bought an M&P A10, because I couldn't pass it up for the price of $1,095+tax NIB. My only complaint is the trigger could be better, and that is already going to get changed soon. LM

PTR-91
-16" barrel variants
-great diopter sights
-removable flash hider
-20rd magazines (super cheap and plentiful)
-Delayed blow back
-Cheaper than everything you listed in your poll
-lots of surplus parts/accessories
-proven battle rifle

Again. I don't want direct impingement system. Vern, I'm looking for a battle rifle. I have a 742 in 308. Thanks for the input. A model 99 is on the list someday.

Vern, I want to get in 303 savage. Nice vintage round
The .303 Savage is hard to find ammo for, and the cases are not easy to make from other rounds -- look at back issues of Rifle and Handloader for articles on how to make .303 Savage cases.

But if you like that sort of thing, it's a wonderful adventure.

I had an M1A Scout Squad, have an FAL PARA and also have a POF P308 which is an AR308 that uses an op rod rather than the Stoner design. I would never recommend an FAL over an AR308 but I would recommend the SCAR 17S as a great alternative to an AR. As for your list though, I'd go with the SIG or the SCAR depending on your budget.

1858, there is no budget limit. Other wise the scar wouldnt be on the list.

Popov, i had no idea they made saiga in 308. I love the ak platform

" I`m looking for a battle-rifle." You can always join a branch of the military'
That`s assuming you haven`t been in. They will gladly loan you one.

I had a "loaner." :)

I was in the usmc. Not looking to battle. But i want something with more power then 5.56 and 7.62x39. Im am going to use and abuse it. And i want to make sure it will hold up.

I could not vote twice - Either the Scar or Ruger will do fine. A 16" barrel in 308 would not be my choice. Not arguing just stating my meager opinion. I prefer, at the shortest, an 18" and 20" better to be a good compromise. Don't turn that nice 308 cartridge into a 300 to 500 yard gun.
