I'm looking for a .308. Bolt action or semi accurate enough for hunting that won't make me miss a house payment or give my wife a heart attack. Any suggestions? leaning toward the ruger m77 or the new savage 110.

My buddy has a Savage 110,and it will shoot 1" all day long at 150 yds.
I can't rember what kind of glass is on her,but do know the glass was
almost as much as the gun.
That said,I'd say go with a Saiga 308. Mine will kill a beer can all day
at 150yds with irons. They now offer 20 rd. mags for them as well.

.308 is an excellent choice.

I think you have made an excellent decision in your initial choices. I generally stick with the Remington 700. There are many parts available and it has been around for decades. My particular .308 that has seen hard use is a 700 ADL. I didn't like the blind magazine at first, but at least I never worry about accidentally releasing it or where I left my spare. During deer season, I load it up, and just remove the bolt when placing it back in the safe.

Savage.

I've got a Savage model 10 in .308 that is by far the most accurate .30 caliber rifle I've owned. Handloads or 150gr Winchesters go less than an inch from a rest all day long. Mine is older, but I hear the new ones with the accutrigger are the cats' pajamas.

Rem mod 7, it's lite(i carry mine all day deer hunting) accurate(last deer i got was about 250yds, 1 shot right behind the ear. didnt want him to jump the neihbors fence line) mine has the laminated stock, dont have to worry about stock expanding and contracting. Just put a good scope on it and u will have a lite and accurate all around hunting rifle.

.

I like my Savage model 16.

Its a bit short for my long arms, but we work well together. {>

Get the one that fits you best!

Savage Model 10FP. Short action, accutrigger and bull barrel. I love mine.

The only bad part is the factory stock is terrible. Will it work? Yes, but I replaced mine anyway.

Is it inexpensive? No, the 10FP models are a bit more pricey than the standard sporter configuration. Plus the price of the added stock. I think I have about $650 invested in mine, including a new B&C Medalist stock.
