I currently own a smith 442 and I'm looking to step up to a .357. I want something that's concealable and but also heavy enough to comfortably handle .357 loads. After research I've come up with the sp101. Is this the best choice?

Did you keep the stock grips on it? It seems like the rubber texture would catch on clothing

Why get anything lighter if your going to be shooting magnum rounds? 17 years and counting. A solid weapon with a history of reliability.

I carry a SP101 w the original grips and have no issues with catching my shirt. I really like it!

I greatly preferred the Hogue Monogrip to the original grips. The monogrip tapers down a little at the end, so the end of the grip actually prints less against the shirt. it also gave me a full hand hold on the gun rather than having my pinky dangling.

Simple answer.
Get a Ruger Spped Six. 2 3/4 in weapon. It will be the best gun going.
Dont doubt me on this.

I looked for a long time for a comfortable carry gun in a respectable caliber. I chose the SP101 2.25" DAO. I read a lot of opinions on the gun being too heavy, but it works perfectly for me.

The only issue I had with the stock grip was that my middle finger was getting beaten up by the back of the trigger guard. I have since replaced it with a Hogue monogrip, however, I chose the nylon version instead of the soft rubber version. It sticks out a little more than the stock grip, but still conceals very nicely. I wouldn't want to shoot .357's out of anything smaller or lighter.

seems unanimous lol i guess ill be looking for an sp101 at the next gun show, thanks for all the input guys!

Not going to ruin the unanimous aspect of the responses. I would love to have an SP101, and hope to someday.

However.

I'm going to get an LCR in .357 first, as:
A) it's a bit smaller and lighter, which make it more carryable for my particular body;
B) it received quite a few decent reviews when shooting actual .357 magnum loads; and
C) it's more affordable by my current budget.

All important considerations for me.

Ruger LCR 357

Good choice=I am happy WITH MINE
great trigger!
looking for a good carry holster.

I had an SP101 with a three inch barrel. It was very accurate, and I liked it...except the accuracy it displayed was not to point of aim.
I put up with it till I found a deal on a S&W Model 19 snub, which I will never sell.

LCR 357, best 357 pocket gun out there. The Tamer Grip makes shooting 125g. 357 painless. With a minimum of practice follow up shots are easy. The SP101 is a great on or in the belt gun. I find it also handles 125g. 357 with ease. I carry them both every day. The LCR 357 was My favorite shooter this past year.

SG1, I noticed the same thing when I shot mine with full house loads, middle finger was beat up bad! I'm going to see if I can find the grip you mentioned, besides my finger, somethings gotta give!

Yes, the SP 101 is a top notch revolver, got the 3" and had an action job done on it, The DA is so smooth, only way I shoot it now.
