Looking for a 9mm range gun.

For just a 9mm range gun, I'd avoid polymers unless you're comfortable with a bit more recoil than an all metal gun. It's not that much more noticeable, but over a range session it may be.

CZ75 is a good pick for an ecellent combination of fit/finish, price, and shootability (accuracy, ergos, comfort, and reliability).

Taurus PT92 or 99 are also very good choices. Taurus may have a spotty rep for quality and/or CS, but they got it very "right" with the PT92 and 99.

For me, both the CZs and Taurus are so dependable and reliably accurate that they're almost boring to shoot (the reason I let my original Taurus PT99 go, much to my everlasting regret).

CZ75, especially if you think you might enjoy having fun with it. There are so many modifications that are easily done with the CZ75. Parts are easy to get and not expensive.

Recoil should be almost nil for you with it's weight and great ergonomics. Some people do have problem with the trigger reach, but there are remedies for that. And in Single Action, there is no problem at all for anyone.

I really like the Beretta 92FS. That pistol is a pleasure to shoot compared to my other AL's, it's heavy enough to really dampen recoil I guess. That said, the XD9 has also held up to everything I load for it, but it's not as comfortable to shoot as the 92FS. I have an old G17 that shoots quite well for me, but it's the least comfortable to shoot of the 3 mentioned, IMO.

My opinions are based on full tilt loads, no light target loads what so ever.

I have shote a Star M30 for years and love the big old crude thing. It has never had a failure in functioning with any factory or reloaded ammo. Last week I purchased a Glock 17 4th generation since I got a really good price on it. Will take shoot it tomorrow for the first time. The pistol feels good in the hand.

Beretta 92. all I do is shoot it. no miss fires, no jams. it goes bang every time, with every thing I put in it.

Go Metal

If it isn't going to be used as a carry piece, I would definitely go w/ a metal gun over a polymer, as others have suggested. I've owned most if not all of the polymer 9s, there are lots of good ones around $5-$600 if you can find some used ones. If I'm shooting just to punch holes, not practicing for SD or carry draw, I have the most fun with metal single action guns. I don't know if it is full length metal rails or just having a gun where the overall weight is closer to that of the trigger pull but I know for a fact I shoot all metal guns better, everything else equal. EAA, Baby Eagle, and CZ, seem to have the same long lost grand daddy, Mr. Browning, and all the guns shoot well. I have ONE gun that I've spent less than $600 on that I would put up against my 1911s, and it's a CZ SP-01. I don't know if I just got lucky but that gun will easily shoot w/ the best 1911s I've ever seen. If you find you need a night stand gun as well, it has a rail and comes w/ night sights standard. Overall a really, really, good purchase.
