There is one huge difference between the Aimpoint CompM3 or CompML3 and the knockoffs - battery life. The Aimpoints electronics mean battery changes every 5 years or so if the sight is left on 24 hours a day. The copies also are prone to fog up, and can be ruined by rain.
I have a $30 BSA on my 10/22 and it has been just great. Very accurate and durable. I don't shoot this rifle in the rain so that's not an issue for me. Leave the sight on, however, and your looking at a dead battery almost overnight.
