Hello, I'm new around here. I'm looing for a good carry pistol in 10mm. I've looked at te dan wessons but I'm not a big fan of the external extractor. I realy don't want the slide cut for an adjustable sight either. Anyone know of other good 10mils that would be adequate for carry?

If a fullsize pistol is an option, CDNN still had some Witness 10mm's in stock Monday when I spoke to Tracy there. I believe the price is $269.99. Their number is 800-588-9500.

First off, welcome to the board, always nice to see another 10mm devotee.
Now to your question.... factory offerings are pretty slim. Glock has 2 10mm pistols, the 20, which is really large, might not fit your idea of a carry piece (although I do know someone who carries one concealed), and the 29, which is closer to the 19-23 in size, and thought to be the proverbial cat's ass by alot of 10mm/Glock types. EAA still imports the Witness in 10mm, but only in the full size, and the reputation of the Witness line is spotty at best, I don't know, I've never fired one. S&W makes the 610, a honkin' big N-frame in 10mm/.40 S&W, but that's a tough gun to conceal (although I did carry mine around CCW for a week to settle an argument, I wouldn't reccomend it). Kimber recently released a 1911 pattern gun in 10mm. Those plus the DW you already mentioned is about it for factory new...
Now, in the used market, things widen out a little but not much. Smith large frame autos (10mm and .45ACP) tend to be better thought of than their other auto offerings. I have a 1006 (very big and heavy, but a sweet shooting gun), and a 1066 (basically the same gun with about an inch less slide and barrel). Smith also had a few other varitions on the 10mm theme with different fire control systems and such. They're nice guns, still reasonably easy to find, and if you don't mind the weight the 1066-size guns carry fairly easily. Colt made the Delta Elite, which is the 1911 chambered in 10mm. This is what I carry, my custom Delta is supposed to get back from Ted Yost tomrrow actually. Several other companies made 1911 pattern pistols in 10mm, including Springfield, AMT, and probably some others that I'm leaving out.
Another option is the custom route, which can be quite expensive and time-consuming. After my Delta gets back, I'm planning on putting a Commander-length 10mm upper on my Springfield Compact frame, for carrying in hot, hot weather or when the big gun just gets too heavy. You could possibly swap slides on your DW, there's a world of possibilities out there.
Well, that's my quick-and-dirty 10mm primer, I hope it helped a little, I'm sure some of the other members here will contribute more than I can. Again, welcome to the board, we're happy to have you.

What I would look at:
Glock 29
S&W 10xx series
Witness Compact
Wintess Polymer (supposed to have one out this year in 10mm, don't know if it's available yet)

The Dan Wesson CCO would be the only compact 10mm in a 1911 pattern I know of at the moment unless you go full custom.

I'm going to have a S&W 646 modifed to shoot 10mm either by getting a whole new cylinder or by cutting the exisiting cyl deeper. Probably the former.

I have 2 Witness 10MM's...full size and compact and they shoot very well and so far no malfunctions and really don't expect any......

I had a Colt Delta Elite (stainless) in 10 mm and it was a schweet gun. I'm kicking myself for parting with it.

I've never owned a Dan Wesson, but I've had several friends who have and were quite pissed off with their customer service.

Has anyone had the same experience?

My EDC is a G29 w/ Heinie "straight eight" night sights & Wolff recoil rod/21# spring. Great gun. My urban social load is 165gr. GSHP from Doubletap; woods carry = 200gr. XTPs. I carry a spare 15rd. Glock 20 mag for it sometimes...

Well, I have a Dan Wesson RZ-10 with over 3000 rounds through it and never had one problem with the external extractor. The RZ is my main CCW piece when I can conceal the big honker. I have a Delta Elite also, but it's in the safe as I found it not as reliable as the DW.

The DW eats Blazer at the range and Silvertips for carry. I ran 4-500 Silvertips through it over the couple years I've had it also, no malfunctions.

Can't comment on DWs customer service, the gun has been flawless and I have never needed them.

If you're just dead set against the external extractor, go with a Glock.
I had an EAA Witness, and I would not trust my life to that weapon.

I'm not sure why a 1911 with an external extractor causes people grief
other than it's not what JMB put on there. I've had more trouble with
clocking internal extractors and tuning issues than I can remember,
so I find the external extractor a nice thing.

I carry either a DW Razorback or CCO

I have found DW's customer service to be outstanding.

For single-action, Kimber or Dan Wesson 1911s. Or an old Delta Elite if you find a good deal on one. My current 10mm is a custom Delta Elite done by Ted Yost.

For double-action, I'd probably get a used S&W 10xxx. I owned a Witness, it had good qualities and was reliable once I got the right mags for it, but wasn't quite ready for prime time. That may have changed, since that was maybe 5 years ago.

A 610 is a fun revolver, but kind of a novelty. I liked mine, but had no real use for it.

Glocks are pretty good if you like Glocks. I used to, but not so much now. The 20C I had was pretty nice.

I use a S&W 1006 when Im out in the bush. Its pretty heavy for CCW carry but rides well in a Bianchi Accumold belt holster whenever I'm out in the desert.

I'm kicking myself now cause I seen a Kimber TLE in 10MM for $800. I called the guy who had it but the pistol is now in California and no longer up for sale. :banghead:

thanks

thanks everyone for the replies. I was just made aware of some deals that caspian does for Military so I'm going to build a 10mm on there frame and slide. once again thanks for the replies.

I carried a full size Witness 10mm for a while. I had to use heavier springs and polish it up but after that it worked flawlessly.

I've had excellent luck with my Witness - the full-sized, steel, wonder-finish version. I'd have been happy even if I'd had to pay twice as much for it, I really would.

Good sights, good trigger, good overall feel, 100% reliable and incredibly inexpensive. Plus, you can get caliber conversion kits in 9mm, .40, .45, and .22. What's not to like?

I'd like a 10mm as well. I'm looking for a good deal on a Delta Elite in SS. but will probably just settle for a G29. This thread however has me thinking of others... which is a good thing :) Will give me more time to find the Delta!

FWIW, I was a Glock hater and only bought a G29 because it was the only compact 10mm I could get in this handgun-restricted commonwealth. It has really won me over -- it's a great pistol. Worth a look, even if it doesn't fit your initial criteria.
