I am looking at the Tipton Best Gun Vise for a Christmas gift for my dad. I am curious if anyone here has used one or if they would recommend a different one. It has some good reviews across the board. I looked at some cheaper ones but they seem to always have some bad reviews about how they doen't hold together or are not so sturdy or something along those lines.

He is going to use it for cleaning, working on guns, mounting scopes etc. I don't think he would use it for sighting in so I don't need one that doubles as a sighting in product.

Thanks for everything.

Wyo;

If you live there, and somewhere near skiing, go to the ski shop for the gun vise. A pair of ski vises, such as Toko or Swix, will have rubber covered jaws & are the most versitile items to hold guns (and a lot of other stuff) that you'll ever run across.

You can frequently find them at garage sales & ski swaps too, but I'm thinkin' that with Christmas rapidly approaching, the ski shop is your best bet.

I do most of my cleaning, and most all other work, on a Tipton Best gun vise. I really like it. Mine's been moved all around, kicked a few times, used on the drill press (gee, folks - that's why you're not supposed to use RED loctite on scope ring screws), etc. It's held up well. I'd recommend it.

I have one of their earlier models. It does not allow a weapon like an AR 25 or a double barrel shotgun to be held in a broken open position. Personally if he is not using it for an AR type I would go with the earlier model, less expensive. For cleaning a double shotgun they disassemble so easily and quickly a vise is not necessary.
