I'd like to get some Heinie Slant Pros installed on my HiPower but I don't want to wait too long. Anyone have a gunsmith they recommend?

Also I have the Silver Chrome version (with the black rubber grips and gold trigger). Will having these sights installed require refinishing the slide?

Thanks

Don't know you exact location, if you tell us someone probably knows a local guy and saving you a bit of shipping, you'll probably have to get dovetails cut and the slide refinished...

1st Choice

Virgil Tripp
www.trippresearch.com
Alpine, TX

Virgil mostly does refinishing but he's an awesome pistol smith to boot. You can kill two birds with one stone.

2nd choice
Dave Berryhill
www.berryhillguns.com
Van Alstyne, TX

Dave's a great revolver smith, both internally and externally. I hear he's good with the pistols as well.

Or depending on the type of sights you currently have trijicon can install tritium vials into them.

Ah I'll check with Tripp. I've had them refinish a handgun before, they just didn't come to mind when I thought of having sights installed. Excellent maybe I'll get something else chromed at the same time :)

Lots of good choices in BHP 'smiths.

Wild West Guns is one of them - they did the work on my BHP.
BHP cut for Novak bar-dots:

"...Will having these sights installed require refinishing the slide?..." Generally speaking, no. If you're thinking about re-finishing the slide, do it before you have the new sights put on.

Just curious, when one sends a gun to Yost-Bonitz, who does the actual work?

I'm under the impression that besides Yost & Bonitz, there are others working there who may do the actual work on your gun... does anyone know about this?

From what I know from their own forum, there are other pistolsmiths there. Seems to be the same kind of shop set up as EGW.

Rob96... I got that impression... which is not ideal, in my view. I prefer to work directly with a top pistolsmith when possible, so I tend to send my guns to one-man-shops like Don Williams, Ned Christiansen, Vic Tibbets, and John Harrison (Precision Gunworks), Marc Hartshorn. Not that the Y-B shop would produce poor work, just that if I'm going to seek out and pay for a big-name-smith, I want THAT GUY to work on my guns.

DHart, I understand what you mean, but don't necessarily agree. There are the one man shops that send work out as well. Do a search or check on the 1911forum, the reputation of the YoBo or EGW shops an you will see no one has ever, at least that I have read, had one negative comment about them. I have been to the EGW shop and it is one hell of an operation. I would have no problem sending work to either of them.

I've been in several gunsmiths shops when packages came in from other smiths. I think it's probably more common than most would like to think. I had one of mine sent to a notable one man shop for some work. When I called to check on the progress, I was told that he was having to wait for another well known smith that did all his prep-work and bluing.

I don't doubt that the work from those shops is good... I guess I just prefer working with some of the guys I know who are the only ones doing the work (aside from refinishing). Not that I would mind sending a gun to EGW or YB.

gotta show the rest of the goods, hawk! :D

here i'll help.
