Well I'm looking into buying a nicer handgun but don't want to spend more than $1000 dollars. I'm looking for something full size and 9mm. It's going to be my bedside gun as well as occasional carry. What's out there for this price range? What would you get?

Could you be a bit more specific please? For instance, are you looking for a revolver or semi auto? Stainless or blue/black? Double action only, double action/single action or single action only? Striker fired or hammer fired? Safety or no safety?

Not trying to be rude or put you down, but as it is, your question is too open ended.

Or am I reading to much into what you want and I'm just supposed to answer with what I'd buy for less than 1k?

Browning HP on the high end, CZ75, Glock 17/19, Sig 2022 w/night sights, S&W M&P, and a host of others.

There are a lot of quality 9mm handguns on the market today. Personally, I'd spend $1000 on a $5-600 gun and 3,000 rounds of ammo.

A $1000 isn't what it used to be, you can get there with a springfield loaded or a kimber, pretty easy. Sviguns.com make the best pistols out there but $1000 won't get one. You can find used ones under $3000 though.

$1,000 will get you a nice gun, but is far from "high end" territory.

And like stated, we can't start throwing you model names until you tell us what you want.

I'll second the suggestion that along with the handgun, you purchase a *good* leather or kydex holster from a major maker, a good leather or kydex magazine carrier or two (I like the Galco DMC), a good reserve of magazines, plenty of practice and carry ammunition, tritium sights (I like Trijicon, different color front and rear), and a good weapon light (either mountable for bedside use, if your handgun supports it, or handheld and carry-able), a good cleaning kit, and range time.

Good accessories together will cost as much as a good handgun themselves, so consider that in your budgeting.

For $1000 I would look at something from HK. Maybe a USP Tactical or a P30.

For carry I would buy a good mid-range pistol like a XD, XDm, M&P, etc. and spend the rest on a quality belt, holster, spare mags, several boxes of high end defensive rounds and even more boxes of practice ammo. Run a minimum of 200 rounds of your preferred carry ammo through it to make sure it functions well with that ammo. If you have any money left over, look into spending some time with a professional trainer.

Alright guys well here is some more info. I want to stay away from revolvers, the action type does not matter. I prefer no safety and do not want a 1911. I've already got a few glocks so I prefer not to have another one. Does not matter if it is striker fired or hammer fired. Hope this helps!

A thousand dollars doesn't really get you a "high end" pistol and I would no sooner presume to pick out your pistol than I would let you pick out mine.

It's not for you to pick my pistol, more for you to throw out a few ideas in that price range.

A brand new Hi-Power is like $8-900? I don't know. You could burn the rest.. well not really, that'd be illegal probably

Sig 229 Elite all Stainless. Sig just discontinued production on them so they are still kicking around. Pretty gun and definately not 1911 or G-Lock.

Beretta 92FS INOX, or if you really want a light, the M9. Spend the rest on accessories.

Or, if you prefer polymer, Walther PPQ

There is only one clear choice for the discriminating gun buyer.
