Well, after nearly 60 years of use, by my Grandpa, my dad and myself, I am retiring the old remington model 512 sportmaster to the old gun rest home (closet). I know, it sucks but the gun has lost a lot of bluing, has many cracks and scratches in the stock and well, some of his parts just don't work anymore. Don't worry, I will fix him up one day but right now I am just looking for a new squirrel hunting partner. I am looking for a bolt action .22 (preferably tube fed) that is very accurate and not too expensive, what do you recommend?

The CZ 452/455 is quite nice.

Well built with a logical design. good materials. Take your pick of stock designs.

The leaf irons on the 452 models are pretty cool and the walnut stocks are usually nice, if not expensive, with a few wood-lottery winners in there.

My 452FS has a good balance to it. Lightweight, but not too light.

Safe to dry-fire, easy to work on (bolt, trigger, etc). My only complaint is that one ejector plate will scratch the hell out of a 22 cal cleaning rod if you let it. Needs a 17cal rod apparently.

I think the 981T as suggested is probobly your best bet for a new rifle...i dont think ive seen any other tube feed bolts in quite some time.

Chrome Austex has it right. The CZ rifles are very very accurate and pretty.
They are an excellent investment into the future.
Here's my 452 FS Think of how good this would look in your gunsafe.

Keep an eye out for a newer 512. You might even find one with a grooved receiver for one of those newfangled telescopic sights. ;) Or, you could look for a Remington 582 to upgrade the 512.

Otherwise, the Marlin's the only new manufacture of which I'm aware. But my knowledge is by no means exhaustive.

I know you said you like a tube fed bolt action, but the CZ-452 is the finest .22LR rifle I have personally owned. I would choose it if I could have only one.
As others have noted, the Marlin 981 also has a lot going for it. Marlins are known to be very accurate.

For parts, check out Numrich Gun parts. My dad also has an old 512 that had to be semi-retired, but we got some replacement parts to get it back in running condition. It's not used now that we've got half a dozen other .22 rifles in the family, including a little Stevens single shot we just got working correctly again, but at least it does work properly again.
And FWIW, I've head shot a lot of squirrels with that old Remington!

I think the Marlin mentioned above would be my choice. These days, bolt action and tube fed is a difficult match. In the past, there were some very good Remington choices that I feel sure you could find in great condition used. I have the 22WMR version of the Marlin and it is a nice rifle.

The Marlin 39A or Henry is a good choice with a lever action and tube fed. I think the Marlin makes a fine squirrel rifle with a scope on it. They are just a bit pricey these days.

Not tube fed but the magazine fed Savage Mark II has been a great gun for me.

i second this

if you are willing to switch to mag feed........for the price, you cannot beat the MK2 for out of the box accuracy....

out of the box....with good ammo.......you can hit a squirrel at any reasonable range.....

with a bit of work....you can easily take squirrel out to 100+ yards.

My vote for a tube fed bolt action 22, went to a Rem. 582. So i looked until i found a nice one and i'm glad i did as it shoots VERY good!

Another tube fed that i like is a Henry, but it's a lever action.

If your new 22 lasts for 60 years, I wouldn't worry too much about the cost. How about getting a Henry Golden Boy lever action 22? They are beautiful and are tube fed.

For my money a Marlin Model 60 is hands down the best bargain for a gun that can drive tacks all day or neuter flies at 50 yards. Well, the flies may be an exaggeration, but it is the only .22 I have held on to for more than 25 years and will not sell it because it is still the most accurate rifle I have ever owned.

Try one out before you decide.

"Not too Expensive" is a hard one to pin down. If I wanted a new accurate .22 for not a lot of money, I would be looking at the Savage Mk II series. For a bit more, CZ would also be on the list. If you were to come across a used Kimber 82 at decent price, they are excellent. They aren't tube fed, but such is life.

If you change you mind on the tube fed need, the Savage Mark II is a great choice. The CZ's are very good choices with the 452 Trainer being the least expensive.

In the semi-auto arena, the Marlin M60 is a great tube fed choice. They are known to be accurate and reliable.

Thanks guys, I am pretty stuck on the tube fed, so it looks like a marlin it is.

now im not trying to change your mind....but just curious.... why tube feed?

is it a tradition or aesthetic thing?
or is it a function/ operation issue?

The last two .22 rifles I have purchased for hunting and fun use have been a Marlin Model 60, blued synthetic and a CZ 452 Trainer.
Both have been uniformly excellent rifles.
