I am in the market for a new pocket pistol. I am down to the m&p bodyguard or the yet-to-be-released beretta pico. I have shot neither, but have plenty of experience with several pocket-sized 380s.

From what I have seen of the pico it looks awesome. If you were in my shoes would you wait for the pico to come out before making the choice or simply buy the m&p today?

Any word on the relase day? I have heard it will be 8/2014, but cannot confirm that anywhere.

I've got the Bodyguard 380, as far as I know the M&P Bodyguard is the same gun minus the laser.

I'd recommend the Bodyguard over a yet to be released pistol that would be a minor miracle to not have some teething problems as all these sub-compacts seem to do on initial introduction.

Very happy with our pair of Bodyguard 380s -- they even work with Wolf steel cased ammo that chokes almost all other little 380 pistols. I bought a bunch of it years ago when Sportsman's Guide was selling it for $90/1000 as it worked great in my Wife's Beretta 85 (a 9mm sized 380).

My Wife and I shot a Bodyguard looking for a .380 for her. Not what we were looking for but a fine gun. She settled on a Glock 42. I want a Pico in the worst way for the .32 drop in option....if you see them buy two and I'll buy one off ya. :D

the M&P Bodyguard looks promising. A standard and fairly proven design without the laser.

If I were looking at a .380 pocket pistol, I would look at the BG. Of course, I just got my LCP where I want it after 3 years by adding a hybrid grip, 13lb spring, and a laser:evil: Now it's about the same size as the BG, so I supposed I should have just gone that route:scrutiny:

At SHOT in January Beretta reps claimed the Pico would be available 2nd quarter of 2014 which would be by the end of June. If it shows up in August I'll be the first guy in line for one.

I've not yet seen a Glock 42 in the flesh, but based on printed specs it would seem to be closer in size to the Shield than the Bodyguard.

A bigger .380 can fill a need for a lot of folks, Ruger has also noticed this and came out with a .380 version of the LC9.

I actually got to shoot the 42 last weekend

I really liked it...it was just a shorter (in height) version of my Glock 19. Almost identical. It comes with a 10 round mag, optional 12 round is nice because it gives you a spot for your pinky. It will also take the glock full mags.

So why did I buy the Beretta? I just wanted a change of pace from my 19...but almost regretted after as it is MUCH easier to strip the Glock completely ...I say almost because the Beretta is sweet too and built more like a square than a rectangle...LOL

I have shot the 42 a few times. It is a very nice firearm. A pleasure to shoot actually. But I am looking for something (else) to fill the pocket gun niche. Something LCPish in size is what I am after. If I am going g42 size, I am strapping on my shield or g27.

Beretta Nano too big for pocket carry? What size are your pockets? I carried one for while. In fact right now I have S&W M&P 9 Shield in my pocket comfortably. Sometimes to find the right gun, you will need to change the clothing you wear. To carry a firearm is a lifestyle change.

It really comes down to what kind of sacrifices you are going to make.

If the Pico is anything like the Nano I had, I say do it. The only thing I don't like is the 1.5 finger grip. It may need a finger extension just to get 2 fingers on it.

As much as I love my Nano I'm pretty eager to get a Pico but I ain't holdin' my breath.;) Beretta is notorious for being late with releases. The Pico is past due, the ARX100 is over a year past due, mag well convo kits for their Storm carbines are backordered for months...Beretta just can't seem to get their poop in a group. Still, I do want one.:D

Adamsean - yes the nano is too big for me to pocket carry. Again, I have a shield (roughly the same size as the nano) if I want to carry something bigger. I am strictly looking for a tiny pocket gun fir when I don't want to or cannot carry something bigger.

I rotate my normal carry pistols between a shield and a g27, so I am only looking fir much smaller options. I have an lcp but I want something with real sigjts. Bodyguards and the pico look ideal on paper.

You shot a 26, not a 42.

ARX-100 is in the stores. I was just holding one yesterday.

I don't know, I took this pic of a Ruger LCP on top of a G42. I lined up the triggers.

From your photo it would seem the Glock 42 is about the same size as the Bodyguard 380, what about thickness, is the slide on the 42 as thin as the Bodyguard or LCP slide?

From what I'd read, I had little interest in the 42, your photo changes that.

That photo is bit deceiving. The 42 and lcp are not in the same size class at all. I own a lcp and have fired the 42 fairly extensively. The 42 is comprable in size to the lc380, but not the lcp.

Beretta has a peculiar approach to new introductions. They seem to have tendency to make sure they work before selling them. This is a shift away from the standard industry practice of rushing them into production then issuing recalls when they don't work.

Since Beretta has "introduced" the Pico at the last Two NRS meetings/SHOT shows, it would be nice if they are actually vetted when/if they become available.

Yup...Px4 SC is my main squeeze and preferred CCL gun. Not anywhere near the size of the G42, Pico, or LCP.

If you want a pocket pistol and like .380 you *must* shoot a G42 before you let someone else decide how big/small it is...it is a lot of power and no recoil in a pocket sized package. I think a Pico will personally be a BUG for me for when I'm wearing Speedo's and need to have a pistol. :D :barf:

We've got one of our best and largest guns shows of the year coming up next week, I'll make a point to try and see for myself.

Saw the G42 in the flesh. Its a "nice" size but is closer to the LC380 than the LCP. So I'd have to agree the G42 photo shown above is a bit deceiving. But if you want a .380 the size of the smallest 9mm pistols the G42 will be hard to beat especially if you like Glocks. Its a bit large for my pockets, and in that size I'd rather carry a 9mm, YMMV.
