I know there is a contingent of folks on here who like and collect vintage guns and optics like the old blued steel Weavers/Sears and for years I've had this pretty cool Weaver/Sears 4x scope I found when I was digging through a box of giveaway stuff many years ago and scored. I put it on my 10/22 and it's been on there ever since but it's a lil easier for my wife and daughter to use a red dot so I'm thinking of retiring the old 4x and putting it on something else. It's not as clear as it probably once was and has some honest wear but still ready to serve.

My question is would this scope look ghastly on a Henry Golden 45/70 or should I try to find a particular gun to mate it up with. I kind of want a nice used .22lr to find and put it on it but I'm just curious what you guys find to be aesthetically appealing for an old scope like this. I particularly think anything in .22cal with blued steel and a wood stock is most appropriate but I don't have alot of that kind of stuff. Just want to mate this scope to an appropriate gun, what's a good classic host for one of these old weavers, when I see them I just think of the word "Americana" for some reason, just reminds me of the 50's and 60's even though I wasnt alive in those decades.

Suggestions? Perhaps a photo of your favorite pairing?

Now that's an interesting scope. I couldn't zoom in on your image to check it out better. Are the 2 yellow rings on the ocular common?

I've acquired a small collection of Weaver K2.5's, and used to know the model nomenclature of the K-series but can't remember it now. By the looks of your turret caps I have one of a similar vintage.

I mounted one on a 1956 M88 Win on Redfield bases and rings and it looks pretty cool. Another one is on a Crossman air rifle.

Since you mentioned the word Americana , I would say another 10/22 , maybe the Deluxe Sporter or an old Marlin 60 , or a lever action of some type .

I think an older blued Marlin 60 would fit that very well. Nice tube magazine to play along with the slim long lines of that scope. Mount it low with the rings it has on it.

Or a Winchester 72.

That is actually a pic I pulled off the net, but mine has the gold rings along with gold letters that say "Ted Williams" "Sears" but they were made by Weaver for sears. From what I can tell based off some forum reviews and sales ads they were good quality scopes. I think it's a rebranded weaver "J4 ¾" tube"?

I don't have a great closeup pic of mine but...... IMG_20240102_195104.jpg

A 45/70 might shake its innards up. I would put it on a Marlin 39. I have a 2 1/2 power Lyman Alaskan on mine, and it looks appropriate. I have a Mossgerg 351ka it would look great on like this: (Not my guns)

It would look a lot like this scope on this Mossy 151.

I picked up two old Weaver (all-steel and brass and glass, no plastic) scopes (a G4 and a old B4) cheap at a gun show decades go.
I mounted them with one-piece Weaver Tip-Off mounts on my Savage single shot bolt action and Marlin 39 Mountie lever action.

I have one very similar on an old Winchester 77 tube fed semi auto 22. It just "fits" the old gun. My eyes have a little trouble with it but otherwise, it's a dandy scope on a fine rimfire.
