Hey guys, I'm looking for my first handgun here pretty soon and I need some advice as to what to buy.

Here are my only criteria:

1. No Glocks or 1911's (I cannot stand the trigger safety on the Glock pinching the skin on my finger every time I pull it and I don't like how the 1911's look.)

2. Made by a good company

3. $500 or around there.

Bersa Ultra Compact 45...a great carry piece. I have the stainless version once available and it is in daily use. Never a single malfunction, accurate and best of all, less than $400.

not hard to remove the trigger safety on a glock
ive never been pinched however
ruger is a good choice
cz 97 but its 700 new used maybe could be good
used sig
used h&k

Check out a FNH pistol. They are priced through Buds at around $550, come with three mags, and strike me as a really good deal.

I can't say that I would get a .45 acp as a first handgun, but that is just me. 9mms are a lot cheaper to shoot while you work on your proficiency.

FN makes a great handgun at a very reasonable price. Again, I'd recommend the FNP-9 but if you have your heart set on .45acp try the FNP-45. It is a little larger grip than I like but then I am a big 1911 fan.

For what purpose is always a question. I'd also hesitate to discount an entire massive set of quality options simply because of appearance.

If you insist on these criteria, I'd suggest an XD simply based on what I own and my experience. Others would probably work quite well also, but I don't have firsthand experience that meets your criteria.

Well, since Glocks pinch your finger (never heard that one before) then forget about Springfield Armory XD's....they also have the Glock style trigger safety.

Maybe a S&W M&P or a Ruger.

I like my XD45.

The 1911, however, will look a lot better to you if you shoot a good one.:)

"Man, some people just ain't got no taste..... "

Yeah tell me about it, have you seen the newer 1911's? :barf:
