I think I may have something for ya!

Now, sticking with your criterion I think I have something for you that I have experience with and functions flawlessly for me.

It is...

The SigP250

It is chambered in .45ACP, it is NOT a Glock nor is it a 1911 and compared to a traditional 1911 it is lighter and less expensive. I paid around $550 for my band new Sig250 and have yet to have any problems of any kind after about 500 rounds. AND ... Sig is a GREAT brand to buy!

PLUS, with the SigP250 you have the option of changing out calibers, frame sizes, and grip sizes ... it is a VERY customizable pistol!!! If you'd like any more information just lemme know!

How about a CZ-75B? That is maybe the best pistol value out there and you wont find a more accurate pistol without going to the 1911 that you won't buy. Go get yourself a CZ-75B in 9mm!

I quit reading after you said you didn't like the way 1911's look.

autofail.

second the notion of not recommending the .45 as the first handgun. in my opinion it's a lot different than most other calibers I've shot. I'd recommend a 9.

But, since 1911's being ugly to you, I'd recommend an eye exam before a new gun.:neener:

Also would not recommend a .45ACP as a first handgun.

My first gun was Sig 226 and second was 1911. Would you recommend the 45ACP as second handgun? ;)

My vote would be for XD 45 or M&P 45 - In the $500 price range, nice used Sig 220 would be fine too.

However, the more I shoot, the more I like my Taurus PT145 Pro - Well within the price range around $350.

I'd advise taking a good look at the SW99 in .45. You can often find them for under $400, they are absolutely terrific pistols -- accurate and reliable -- and the company offers a lifetime warranty. That all makes for a good combination and well worth a look.
