I do not want to get one from CMP and then send it over to rebarrel to some garand smith. Instead I want to buy the rifle directly from the rebuilder. I am thinking of getting one from Fulton Armory ($1099,) Orion 7 ($1300,) or Garand Guy ($845.)

Or should I go for the Sprinfield Armory new* Garands ($1099.)

Who offer the best parts, service, and warranty? Overall it seems that Giacobbe has the best offer.

*Don't bring the history issue, I realy don't care if the rifle was used to kill some enemies during World War II or the Forgotten War, sorry if I offend anyone. What about ME the actual owner of the rifle writing history into it: blood stainds from Garand Thumb, dings and scratches from dropping the gun after the Garand Thumb, etc. What bugs me about the new Garands are the cast recievers. For those who own them, how are they performing?

Although the new made Springfield is surely a servicable rifle, I'd go with one of the others you mention to maximize GI parts. Any of them do a fine job.

I didn't know about "Garand Guy" thanks for the heads up. I've been wanting one too, CMP was an option but Garand Guy sounds better for what I want.

If you can find a CMP Garand for sale at a reasonable price, you can buy a .308 Garand barrel from Brownells for $200. A good 'smith should install it for another $100 or so. That's what I'm doing. I'll have about $700 in it when it's all done.

Ooops, sorry, didn't read your original post slowly enough.
:uhoh: :scrutiny:

Champion's Choice in TN will install a .308 barrel and relieve the hand guard (it is a heavy barrel) for $225 if I remember correctly and they do very good work. That with a GI M1 is much cheaper than the other options.

I bought my Garand from the CMP with plans to install a new barrel as soon as it arrived. So I ordered the Rack grade. Damned if it didn't show up with a perfect barrel! So I kept it the .30-'06, just incase I ever get the opportunity to shoot in a Garand match.
But the Garand Guy was who I was going to use. Check out the CSP site for Garands. Lots of help there, but those guys are thin skinned, so be careful with your wording. You're automatically a Troll if your not a regular and you ask the wrong question. :scrutiny:

Buy from the source...Springfield

Wait like I am. The "new" .308 from Springfield is suppose to be ready by early 2004. That's what they told me when I called. However, keep in mind, most will go to gunstores to supply their waiting list customers. That will give me time to save a $grand$ for the Garand.

I have a select grade in .30-06 from Orion 7, I highly recommend them. Very helpful and polite and the gun is beautiful.

I recently bought my first Garand from Anthony Giacobbe, www.garandguy.com . I had a few problems with the rifle, but Tony stood 200% behind his work, and the rifle is working fine now. I live in Missouri, and even though Tony is in New Jersey, his response time was excellent. Talk to him on the phone first, and then, if you want, you can just correspond via e-mail.

For more information on the m1 Garands, visit www.battlerifles.com

Enjoy!

Clayton of West Texas Ordances will make you an EXCELLENT Garand in .308 for only $800! All the parts will be USGI and reparked to new condition, the wood will be new, the barrel will be new.....the rifle will basically look brand new, check out the rifle he did for me!

A Weign, the pictures really don't do it justice. The parkerizing is also much darker and blacker than the pictures show. The flash makes the park light up and look grey, it is not.

Seems to me the evil, I mean nice people at the CMP sell actions only or barreled actions. See about one with a crappy barrel and have a .308 barrel installed. Mind you, when you start talking about having things done it can get expensive. There ain't no cheap way of building a decent rifle. I suspect that that grand you're looking at for a new SA will get you a good finished rifle without the dreaded cast receiver.

Blain,

Dude....Just check the site!

Found it, dude! Clicked on everything else, except that! :scrutiny:

Clayton and West Texas Ordnace

I've been on his site and I'm really impresed by what I saw there. Also went to lurk on battlerifles.com and a lot people also praise him there. I just emailed him with a bunch of questions. Depending on his answers I'll buy one of his Garands.
