Hi to all. I just bought a new Ruger New Vaquero in 357 magnum in stainless steel. Let me start by saying this is my first S/A I have a safe full of all kinds of double action revolvers, semi autos handguns and even class III machine guns. But with the whole ammo thing the full autos are sleeping. But my question is I would like to change the factory black grips that it came with. I would like a set of white polymer grips for it. Does anyone make a set that fits perfict without sanding and fitting them? Sorry for the long post guys but I figure I would ask the experts.

You might also want to try Bar-S-Grips (truivory.com), for some truly sweet looking ivory polymer grips. I got a pair of them for my Vaquero from Brownells and they fit perfectly, no filing or sanding required. Another thing they offer is different shades of ivory, like Natural White, Slightly Aged, Antique Yellow, or Ultra Antique.

I suggest you try and find others with the same gun with grips from various grip makers. Too often folks choose pretty when what they need is what fits their hand best. The latter being all over the map IME. I know of at least one maker that makes great grips that do not work with my hand. My two bits.

So what did you end up getting? And photos please when you get them on your Vaquero.

I bought a set from Eagle Grips. Not the most expensive so I not sure how they will fit. I'll post a pic as soon as I get them.

It's nice to find other guys who appreciate "old" single action six guns! I have two of them, both chambered in .45 Long Colt. I did a lot of reading and researching to find the best single actions available, that would handle hot +P loads. The two that I ended up with are the EAA Bounty Hunter, and the Ruger Old model Vaquero. The Bounty Hunter is a beauty, with the color case hardened frame and dark Walnut grips and it shoots very well, is extremely accurate and handles the hottest .45LC loads. The Ruger old model Vaquero is my favorite though! It too handles hot +P loads and after I put the black pearl grips on, is the most comfortable single action in hand that I've ever shot! Anyway, I got the black pearl grips on Amazon.com of all places and they were just under $50.

Be aware that no one makes aftermarket stocks that are likely to be a perfect fit. Close yes, perfect no - unless you are very lucky. That's because the grip frame part is individually ground and polished so no two are exactly identical.

Years ago stocks were fitted to each particular frame and then serial numbered to match it so that during final assembly the right pair would get back on the correct frame. This is seldom done today.

An alternative is a set of stocks that is slightly over sized so that the edges can be worked down to as close to an ideal fit as possible.

Or you can buy some models of grips made by Altamont with a Ruger medallion in them directly from Ruger for less money.

I know this is often the case with after market grips but my Tru Ivory grips (I think these are the New White version), fit my Vaquero perfectly. I couldn't believe my good fortune as I didn't have to do any filing, sanding, or reshaping of the grips. They look fantastic on the gun and I really like the way they feel as they seem to be slightly thinner than the original factory wood grips.

I am delighted at your good luck, but it doesn't always happen that way. Then you have a disappointed customer that's mad at the stock maker. All I was doing was pointing out the facts of life, and trying to explain while expectations should be held in check pending arrival of the new grips. It is not by coincidence that S&W now uses for the most part, stocks that cover the front strap, butt and sometimes the backstrap. This to eliminate any need for hand fitting.

Colt on the other hand, fit the stocks to each SAA revolver they make - but clearly the buyer pays for such perks.
