I have a Ruger New Model Blackhawk (.357/9mm) that I believe was made in 2000. I am going to order some grips for them and it ask to choose the size from ;
1. Blackhawk
2. Super Blackhawk
3. new Vaquero

I was under the impression that the new Model Blackhawks and Vaqueros had the same grip frame. Would you assume that the first choice is for the older model?

Do the New model Blackhawks and Vaqueros have interchangeable grips? Also shouldn't these also fit a Single Six made in 1999. I have emailed them but have not gotten a response yet, I just wanted to see what ya'll would say.

Thanks

Yes, Vaqueros, New Model Blackhawks and New Model Single Sixes utilize the same grips. As do the 4 5/8" and 5½" Super Blackhawks. The only exceptions would be the new flat-top Blackhawks with the new steel XR3 grip frame and the later model .32 Single Sixes with the short XR3-RED grip frame.

Super Blackhawks of 7½" and 10½" lengths are different, as is the New Vaquero.

NEW VAQUERO grips are different than VAQUERO grips. Blackhawks use the old style VAQUERO grips.

There is an exception with a certain 50th Anniversary Model Flat Top Model (or something) that uses the NEW VAQUERO grip.

All the New Model flat-tops use the same grips as New Vaqueros. Which includes 50th anniversary .357 and .44Mag flat-tops, plus the .44Spl flat-top and limited run .41Mag flat-tops.

Your New Model Blackhawk, made in 2000, uses the Blackhawk style grip. The New Vaquero grip is a smaller grip frame, more Colt sized than the Blackhawk frame.

In Ajax Grips you would need a Model 31..

Your FAQ is a little flawed and should be updated. We noted it and discussed it on RugerForum.

8. The Ruger "SUPER SINGLE SIX" in .32 H&R Magnum is an oddball that has a unique grip frame and
requires a unique grip style. Ajax does not currently produce a grip style for this model.
This is only partially true. The initial run of adjustable sighted guns had the standard XR3-RED pattern grip frame, as did the first run of fixed sighted guns. It was only the later run of fixed sight guns that had the short version of the XR3-RED. The locator dowel is in the same place, the panel is simply about a quarter inch shorter.

4. The latest Ruger "NEW MODEL BLACKHAWK" and "NEW MODEL SINGLE SIX" gripframe
comes with black plastic grips, lockable grip frame and a Ruger model number ending in the letter "L". Started into
production in September of 2007 and requires the Ajax Style #35 grips.
There is also no difference between the original XR3-RED pattern grips and the current grips with the internal lock. There is an issue with lock clearance on the new XR3 guns because the grip frame is narrower than the lock but this is a non-issue on the standard Blackhawk and Single Six guns.
