looking for my first AR

i just purchased a yugo underfolder about 4 months ago for my first AK and now im looking to purchase my first AR. i was looking at the m&p15 which would go well with my m&p40 i have and love.
i dont really know much about ar's but i have been looking around and they seem to be going for around 700 and up. im only going to be using this gun for range trips and maybe for HP.

I believe Stag makes the M&P. You might be able to save some money by just purchasing a Stag.
