Any recommendations that aren't too expensive? (I know that the "least expensive"for Mini 14 is open sights, but I'm looking for a scope :) ) Thanks.

As always with these things, I guess the first question is to determine how you are going to use the rifle. If it is a close range rifle, then it would be a fine choice to get a red dot or the like. If you intend to use it for shooting at small things at greater distances, then perhaps something with a little magnification would be a good idea.

I have always been happy with IOR optics. They have a few offerings for the 223 caliber family of cartridges which should work well with your rifle.

Also for a budget scope I like the Nikons.

With scopes, the saying "you get what you pay for holds true".

I don't remember ~ does the Mini 14 eject to the side or straight up? That will make a difference on what mounts you can use.

My last couple of scopes were both Bushnells in the $100 - $120 range.

I once had pretty good luck with a cheaper Tasco Pronghorn from Wal-Mart, altho a good bump would throw the zero off somewhat.

Thanks for the responses. We're looking at about 70-100 yd. shooting. My right eye isn't at all what it used to be.

Mini 14's and 30's are notorious for eating scopes. I have been through several, the best I have found so far is a Nikko Stirling mountmaster, they are airgun rated and seem to handle the Mini's recoil impulse just fine. Also inexpensive with adjustable objective and decent glass for the money.

I have been using a Leupold scope since 1974 on Mini 14 with standard Ruger
scope rings & the same scope on the Mini-30 since I think about 1986.
3-9 scope---It has stood the test of time.
They may be expensive but are worth every penny.

My mini has killed two scopes. I have a Weaver 3x9 on there now, and it is still alive. I have a Nikon Monarch African 1x4 on another .223, but that is more than you probably want to spend. If I wanted to go inexpensive, I would go with a Weaver 1x3. It is cheap at Natchez and it *should* hold up.

I would go with a fixed 4 or a variable 2-7. Probably from nikon. You could pick up either of those new for under $150 and they are great scopes.

BURRIS 1-4X

These are even designed to withstand pellet rifle recoil.

Use a B-Square side mount for the Mini. The required Ruger rings are a POS in my opinion and will cause you no end of problems.

I got medium Ruger rings on my mini 14 tactical and a 2x7x33 Redfield Revolution on it, nice small scope that seems to fit right, about $200. helluva combination.
