I have a few custom rifles built up and now I am wanting to get them bedded. Does anyone know of a good smith in New Mexico or just anyone that can do a good job. Any help would be appreciated. I am located in Clovis NM and would be glad to drive a good way. Thanks

Did you ever consider doing them yourself, Its not hard to learn, you can actually practice with a piece of wood, like a 2x4, and piece of steel pipe, route out the 2x4 to make a channel for the pipe and bed it. The 2x4 being the stock and the pipe being the barrel, I would thread some screws into the barrel to simulate parts of the action. This will give you an Idea of how the process works. Getting all the metal surfaces coated with a releasing agent is paramount! I like the Acraglass gel in the Green box (sets up slow) for wood stocks and PC-7 epoxy for synthetics, a good dremal tool would be good to have also. If not good luck finding a gunsmith, I'm pretty sure there are some in your area. Have you looked in the Amarillo area?

I have just asked around but no one knows. I have called a few gun shops locally and most of them dont want to mess with bedding jobs. Guess I can grab a few of my hunting rifles to practice with and move up from there. Just did not want to destroy a 900 stock with my incompatence LOL. Thanks

Not knowing your skill level, I think if you can do it a couple of times you can do a good job that $900 stock, Just don't get in a hurry, take baby steps, read as much as you can about bedding, the first one I did turned out really good my only problem was my float job, I took out to much wood, The rifle was a Remmy 700 BDL custom delux in 7mag, It fell from a tree stand (with a little help from the occupier of said stand) and cracked the stock between the recoil lug and trigger. I was amazed, it went from a 1 1/2 moa shooter to a 1/2 moa shooter.

I know a guy in Alamogordo that does superior work, lapping, bedding, trigger jobs, you name it he does it, and does it well. I have but one problem, I know his first name and where he works, but I'm not sure if the business is still in existence. The gun shop is called The Game Trail and his name is Brick. The Game Trail is on 10th St. If that shop isn't any longer around I would venture to guess he wouldn't be very difficult to find at any one of the 1 or 2 gun shops in Alamogordo. Just call the couple shops in Alamogordo and ask for Brick. If you don't find him ask if they know where to find him, he is well known in that small town as the best.

+1 on hiscore in ALB. I've done 2 rifles now. Just go slow, and double check everything before you commit. If I can do it anyone can!
