I am thinking of firing up my forge before Spring arrives. I like making my knife blades out of three forms of metal combined, one being old band saw blades. Does anyone have some old dull blades say about an inch wide they would be willing to let go of? It would be much appreciated.

Dang!
I just threw away 4 HS steel 48" bandsaw blades a couple of months ago.

They weren't all that wide though.

But if you are forging, the good steel was still there.

A few of my band saws use 1" blades and I likely have a few that are about worn out but haven't been thrown away. I wouldn't have though they would be thick enough for a knife though.

Wasnt thinking Damascus, these would make a few folds, they are 132" blades.

It sounds like you are trying to make pattern welded Damascus. If that is the case, a small band saw blade steel may not work. There is no telling what kind of steel it is made out of or if there is any nickel in it. For Damascus you need a high nickel steel like Uddeholm 15n20 steel used in lagging mills.

I know absolutely nothing about it, but I have a close family member that is a sawfiler in a saw mill with band saws about 70 feet long. I'd be willing to ask him to grab some scrap pieces and send them to you for the cost of shipping.

Just let me know.

Yes but I have not been able to find better than band saw blades.
