I am looking to add a nice WWII era 1911. I would like it to be one that is shootable, though I would probably shoot it very little. I just don't want one that is strictly a museum piece.

I am OK with a gun that has been re-arsenalled by the military, but I am not looking for one that has been professionally refinished or otherwise altered from military specs.

Where are some good sources for these? I have looked at Simpson Ltd's website, and they seem to have some nice ones. Is Simpson's a good place to look?

How much is a nice WWII era Colt, Ithaca, or Remington Rand going for these days? Not anything rare or special, just an average WWII pistol?

If you don't mind a "mixmaster", i.e. a Remington Rand frame mated to an Ithaca slide, etc., then you should be able to find examples in the $1000 range. Nowadays, an original Remington Rand or Ithaca in 85% condition or better will typically be $1200 and up, depending on location and the motivation of the seller. Colts are $1600 and up, US&S now routinely command over $3000. www.gunbroker.com has all the 1911A1s you could want to see.
