hello, just wondering the benefits of buying one through cmp or going on the market through guns america or the like, thanks in advance

you are about to overwhelmingly see the three letters C, M, and P.

i have 2 from the cmp.

get them from the cmp. period.

Get one through the CMP! It is worth the little bit of hassle. They are half the price, graded accurately, and if you are not happy with what you get, they will make it right.

if you are not happy with what you get, they will make it right

this is an absolutely true statement..... you call them and tell them there is a problem and they act like one of their kids are dying or something till they make you happy. its like a warranty on a 60 year old rifle. go figure.

do you need any other reasons?

ok, got it, now to find a nearby club so i can order my 1st. thanks everyone.

CMP takes awhile but the wait is worth the wait and they ship right to your door no FFL transfer depending on where you live

CMP. Well worth it IMO. You may get a very good rifle at a very good price elsewhere. Then again, you may not. You know what you will get with the CMP. If it isn't right (which does happen, but very rarely) they will make it right. If you can find anything posted contrary to that, I'd love to read about it.

As Bryan noted, you will hear that a lot. :D

You will love your M1 - I bet once you get it, you start thinking about how to fund more.

Go to the CMP web site and they have all the information you will need. A CMP rifle will most likely be cheaper than you can find elsewhere and in better condition.....chris3

if you can't/won't go through CMP, check gunbroker. You'll possibly pay more, but they are there.

Also, shop around on gunbroker around Christmas season. $600-700 service grades will pop up everywhere, and they'll be more specifically graded and gauged.

I got mine off gunbroker for $580 two years ago. You can probably find them for around the same price if the X-mas people scramble to make some cash again this year.

There are deals out there besides CMP, but if this is your first Garand and you dont know what you are looking for CMP is the best and safest route for you

thanks for all the info, looks like a service model for me, had a mini 14 when i was a kid and loved it but onto the original for me, the waiting part will be like xmas in july... thanks again for all the good info, happy shooting

Yeah, definitely CMP.

If you don't want to join a local gun club, a good cheap way to get CMP qualified is to go to an Appleseed marksmanship clinic for $70 for a 2-day clinic or $40 for one day, and join their parent organization the RWVA for $20... Appleseed and RWVA are CMP-affiliated. It is a one-stop shop, and their course of fire is VERY well suited to the M1... they use the Army Qualification Test from back when the M1 was in service. You will have lots of fun, learn a lot, and get qualified for the CMP. You can bring your .22 for your first Appleseed to get qualified, and then bring your new CMP M1 to your second, and try to sign up for an event with full distance shooting. www.appleseedinfo.org

M1 and CMP

Definitely buy from CMP, I ordered one in June and received it eighteen days later. They will ship it overnight delivery and someone over age 21 must sign for it. They also notify you by email when they receive your order and when they are shipping it.

Ya know just reading this thread has made me decide to take tomorrow off, and go shoot my M1. :D

Range Requirements for CMP

Is it true if your over sixty you don't need to quilify at range,I'm over sixty and meet all the other requirements,TIA,FJR

ok, got it, now to find a nearby club so i can order my 1st. thanks everyone.

f you are in the armed forces you already belong to the right club. I guess the cheapest way to go would be Garand Colector's Asso. at $25.00 a year dues. I joined Wa St rifle/pistol Asso who is a CMP club for $35.00 a year. I would figure the state you live in would also have a state rifle pistol club.
