Hey guys,

I'm a huge James Bond fan all of my life so i think its only necessary to own a blued Walther ppk. (Quantum of Solace actually came on right now as im typing lol) but i know Bond's was chambered in 32ACP. I would probably go with the version in .380 because we do live in different times.

But anyway can anyone tell me about the ballistics and need to knows about this particular weapon. I have medium sized hands (wear XL gloves) so i would have to go with the ppk/s, though i dont want to take away from the nostalgic-ness of the reason im getting it. Plus i dont have a compact pistol yet.

Thanks guys

I have a Bond thing, too, and currently have just one PPK, a .32. Mine is a 1964 non import marked gun. After having owned several .380's over the years, I have settled on the "original" Bond gun (7.65) because they seem to be more pleasant to shoot, more accurate, and possibly more reliable than the average .380. If I were you, I would definitely seek out a German made, post WWII commercial gun in either .32 or .380. Interarms also made blued ones here in the US, but the German guns have a better rep for quality and reliability. Of course, they might be twice as much, but they are also an investment. Mine has some bluing wear, and even some very slight holster pitting just on the top of the slide(could be removed if ever reblued, but it makes it look the part of a real carried gun, which it is). Mine will do head shots easily at 25 yards if I do my part, and it will also keep all shots in the center of a silhouette target at 50 yards. Not bad for 47 year old gun. A .32 will be cheaper than .380, and ballpark prices are in the $700-$800 for a nice one. I also have a P99, Beretta 418 .25, a Walther LP53 pellet pistol (seen in Sean Connery's hands in the promotional pictures), and an Armalite AR7 (as seen in Goldfinger and Dr. No). Makes for great conversation and display with some 007 stuff I have. Best of luck in your quest.

I've been carrying Walther PP series pistols for over 30 years. My current EDC is Manurhin Walther PP in .32 ACP. I also own a Stainless Interarms Walther PPK/S in .32 ACP. As far as being reliable, I have over 3000 rounds through my PP with flawless operation and around 500 through my PPK/S. I prefer the .32 in the PP series guns over the .380. They are very accurate, have low recoil which provides for fast follow up shots, and the nine shot (8+1) capability in the PP and PPK/S is a fairly respectable package in a small pistol.

The .380s have more snap to their recoil, which if you are going to shoot a lot can get uncomfortable. I have owned a PP and a PPK/s, in the .380. Both of these guns did have an occasional hiccup, FTE, maybe 1 out of every 100+ rounds. Not frequent enough to be a concern. But, like I have already mentioned ~ my .32(s) have been flawless. The .32 was the caliber this gun was designed around. As far a ballistics, both are on the low end of the scale ~ but I don't count on a one shot stop with any handgun.

I have always owned either the Manurhin (French made) Walthers or the Interarms Walthers. Either of these are what made the PP series pistols "The Gold Standard" of its class of pistol for 70+ years. I have not owned one of the new S&W Walther(s). There have been posts on some of the forums referencing QC issues. S&W does seem to have a good track record of correcting problems and there are a lot of satisfied owners of these guns out there. Personally, I would look for one of the Manurhin or Interarms Walther(s).

The PPK is a classic. The PPK/S has the shorter slide configuration of the PPK, but the longer grip of the PP (one extra round). The PP has the longer slide and is my favorite for carry and shooting. You will enjoy any of these guns.

Here are some Walther forums with great reading on these guns.

I have a PP in .32acp and PPK/S in .380 and a PPK/S in .22lr so there is a hole in my collection. I have the Walther PPK on my wish list as well. I've never had the opportunity to shoot a PPK but I've read that some people claim it is easier to shoot because of the full wrap-around grips. Classic design, well made and beautiful... every collection should have at least one.

I have one, its a great gun. If you plan on shooting alot this gun is very hard on your hand. The beaver tail cuts into your hand webbing bad, so it you want to use it for a range gun I would suggest something else.

I would stay with the .32, since you are a fan. Bond's main point of view with small caliber seems to be, cap them in the knee or someplace where it would take the bad guy's mind off his objective, then take him out with a good judo chop.
